How much does the 2021 BMW 2 Series cost?

Prices have softened 8.90% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 604 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 BMW 2 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2021 BMW 2 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Technology, and Safety.

It stands out as a compact, entry-level BMW with multiple body styles, and it is aimed at buyers who want a small luxury car with a more engaging character. The expert review also highlights great handling and impressive technology.

The trade-offs are clear: the seats are uncomfortable, the back seat is cramped, and it is considered poor value for money. If you want a small BMW that feels more driver-focused than practical, that balance may work for you.

The market shows 35.3% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW 2 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2021 BMW 2 Series is presented as a compact luxury car with standard advanced safety features and easy-to-use technology, which supports confidence in day-to-day ownership. Its expert review also points to strong performance and a well-executed infotainment setup.

BMW includes free scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a small luxury car with a premium badge can still bring premium repair and upkeep expectations once coverage ends.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW 2 Series?

At 71.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any collision. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear, and whether the equipment matches the trim you expect. Because this model can be optioned in different ways, it is worth confirming that the features you want are actually present.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2 Series Gran Coupe is described as an affordable entry-level BMW with a four-door sedan body, standard front-wheel drive, and optional xDrive on the 228i and standard xDrive on the M235i. The base setup is positioned as the value-oriented choice, while the reviewed test car adds equipment such as the M Sport Package, Premium Package, leather upholstery, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Powertrain: The 228i uses a 228-hp turbocharged four-cylinder with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission, and xDrive is available. The expert review notes lively acceleration, a quick 0-60 mph time, and a combined-driving fuel economy estimate of 27 mpg.
• Safety package: The Active Driving Assistant umbrella includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, active blind-spot warning with intervention, and a speed limit information system. A separate Driving Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control and a parking-assistant feature, but it was not on the test car.
• Infotainment: The system uses an 8.8-inch touchscreen with iDrive 7.0, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, navigation, connected services, and over-the-air software updates. Live Cockpit Pro adds a fully digital 10.25-inch display, while the standard setup uses a 5.1-inch display between analog gauges.
• Fuel efficiency: The test car averaged 27.9 mpg, and BMW’s combined estimate is 27 mpg.

Which 2021 BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW 2 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 228i and M235i.

Here's the short version:

• 228i: This is the better-value choice if you want the entry point into the lineup with the 228-hp turbo four-cylinder, available xDrive, and the core BMW tech and safety features. It gives you the compact luxury experience without pushing you into the pricier performance-oriented trim.
• M235i: This is the more powerful, better-equipped choice if you want standard xDrive and a more performance-focused setup. It suits you best if you care more about stronger capability than keeping the purchase price down.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that the Driving Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control and parking assistance, while the Active Driving Assistant suite covers the rest of the core driver aids.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW 2 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 604 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.90% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,338, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW 2 Series's resale value?

The current average of $21,338 sits slightly below last year's $23,422.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you reduce the chance of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. A well-kept example with desirable equipment should still be easier to move than a neglected one.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW 2 Series safe?

The 2021 BMW 2 Series earns top ratings from the IIHS, though it misses a Top Safety Pick because of headlights that rate either Poor or Marginal.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Active Driving Assistant suite includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, active blind-spot warning with intervention, and a speed limit information system. A separate Driving Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control and a parking-assistant feature that steers the car into a space while you operate the pedals and transmission.

The main caveat is that the IIHS headlight performance keeps it from a stronger award result, and the vehicle-to-pedestrian test also falls short of perfect.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW 2 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.90% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It blends multiple body styles with strong handling and impressive technology.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $22,674, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $21,338 average.
• It offers an affordable entry into BMW ownership with standard safety and easy-to-use tech.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $24,964, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,338 average.
• It brings a refreshed design, more power, and standard advanced safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price and features, the 2021 is the primary path to consider. If you are shopping strictly on budget, the 2020 can still make sense, while the 2022 is the better pick if you want the newer redesign and can pay more.
