CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Acura RDX
overall

Summary
With 1,284 currently listed for sale and an average price of $27,744, 34.3% of 2021 Acura RDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Acura RDX 4.69 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
80.6% of 2021 RDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Acura RDX stands out as a compact luxury crossover SUV that blends size, utility, quality, safety, technology, performance, and value into an appealing package. It also reflects Acura’s latest exterior styling and interior design philosophies, along with the completely rethought True Touch Interface infotainment system, giving it a more modern feel than its predecessor. Acura says the RDX is the bestselling model in its segment and one of the bestselling luxury vehicles in America, which helps explain its broad appeal.
Behind the wheel, the 2021 Acura RDX is notable for great handling, and it is also described as comfortable. Those strengths make it attractive to buyers who want a luxury SUV that feels engaging without giving up everyday usability. The value proposition is another major draw, with the RDX singled out for excellent value for money.
There are tradeoffs, though. The technology is described as unintuitive, and cargo space is limited. Even so, the 2021 Acura RDX remains compelling because it combines a polished cabin, strong driving dynamics, and a well-rounded overall character in a segment where those qualities matter a great deal.

Confident, quick, and clean — the right move I bought a 2021 Acura RDX A-Spec after a long stretch of research, quotes, and test drives. Came from a 2015 Mazda6—solid, efficient—but I was ready for something with more presence and power. The RDX gave me that without stepping into overpriced territory. The turbo delivers. Paired with the 10-speed, it moves when I need it, cruises when I don’t. Sport mode plus paddles gives just enough edge without trying too hard. The ride feels tight and grounded, and the A-Spec trim looks clean and confident—no chrome, no fluff. Inside, it’s a clear step up. Ultrasuede, ambient lighting, panoramic roof—it feels elevated, not loud. The ELS Studio sound system is better than I expected, no exaggeration. Fuel economy is lower than my old Mazda. I’m averaging 23–24 mpg mixed, which is fair for an AWD turbo, but it’s a drop. I expected it, but it’s worth noting. The button shifter is fine, but the tray underneath it is a catch-and-forget zone. I’ve left my phone in there more than once because of how tucked away it is. Not a flaw, just an adjustment. Same with the seat moving back when I shut the car off. Lighting fades, dash does a little goodbye animation. I’ve never had a car do all that before. It’s subtle, but now I notice. No issues with the infotainment or CarPlay. I plug in, it works. I’m not paying extra for AcuraLink remote start when the fob does the job just fine. Overall, this RDX feels like a clean step forward. It’s fast when I want it, quiet when I need it, and doesn’t feel like it’s trying to impress anyone. It just handles its business. I’d buy it again.

Great pick up speed and acceleration for an SUV, love the AWD

This car gets high marks for interior design, efficient use of space and comfort. On the other hand fuel economy is pretty poor considering vehicle size and throttle response. What is really disappointing is the impact of the noise canceling technology on the ability of the paying customer to control the sound of the audio system. If you want more bass tones you are out of luck. The more you turn the bass up the more the system cancels it out and the worse it sounds. Acura should just build a quiet car to begin with and not rely on electronic mumbo jumbo.

We decided between Lexus and Acura. Though Lexus scores just above in reliability and ease of tech features we chose the Acura RDX. The Lexus RX was too big and the NX too small for our needs and the Acura RDX was just the right in between size of those two cars. It has very good trunk space with even more storage underneath. There are levers in the trunk to let down the seats (a feature missing on the Lexus, if you are not tall you have to go to the backseat to let them down.) The seats also lay flat as opposed to quite an angle on the Lexus. The passenger seat on the Acura has all the same power comfort adjustments as the driver seat, we couldn’t find one Lexus with that, not even on the luxury trim. Acura also makes is easy to know what is in the car because all their trim levels have a sameset of features so looking for a used car was much easier than Lexus because though Lexus has trim levels customers can add on individual features that don’t come on the trim so you never know if what you are looking for is on the car . Even at the luxury level we could not find an NX with 360 view or Heads-up. I am sure they are out there just pretty hard to find. On the Acura we knew the Advanced package always had those features so it made looking easier. I also like that Acura has left the dead space underneath the console open for a bit more storage space, you can fit a small purse there. Dead space on the Lexus. So for those reasons we chose the Acura over the Lexus. However they are both very nice cars and I will say all the Lexus Dealerships we went to were superior in their customer service! We just liked the Acura car better.

How much does the 2021 Acura RDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $27,718 |
| Year-Round Low | $26,968 |
| Year-Round High | $28,964 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,963 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.30% |
Prices have softened 4.30% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,307 listings available, which suggests you have a decent amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 4.69/5, and the expert rating is 8.17/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Owners repeatedly praise its fantastic value, comfort, and fun driving experience, while also highlighting the spacious interior and stylish design. That lines up well with the overview: you’re looking at a compact luxury crossover that aims to blend utility, quality, safety, technology, performance, and value into one package.
The main trade-offs are the unintuitive technology and limited cargo space, and the expert notes also point to a touchpad-based interface that can be distracting to use. Even so, if you want a luxury SUV that feels engaging without giving up everyday usability, this model fits that brief well.
There are 34.6% good or great deals in the market, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.69/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a vehicle that feels reliable, comfortable, and trouble-free enough to inspire confidence, with many drivers emphasizing its strong value and everyday usability. The expert evaluation reinforces that sense of dependability by describing the RDX as a polished, well-rounded SUV that delivers smooth, accurate, and refined operation from its driver-assistance systems.
Acura also includes standard safety equipment that helps reduce ownership stress, and the model’s strong safety reputation adds another layer of reassurance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about living with the technology and making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Acura RDX?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on overall condition, technology operation, and whether the vehicle’s features match the trim you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base setup starts with a strong look and feel, but the Technology Package adds important safety equipment that the base trim lacks, including blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert. The A-Spec Package adds sport seats with simulated suede inserts, a sport steering wheel, a black headliner, dark brushed aluminum trim, sport pedals, red ambient lighting, and unique gauges, while the Advance Package adds all of the extras. The best-value choice depends on whether you want the added safety tech or the sportier cabin treatment.
- Powertrain: Every model uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and SH-AWD is available if you want sharper handling and more confident traction.
- Safety package: AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert require at least the Technology Package, and the system also lacks pedestrian detection, traffic-sign recognition, and Traffic Jam Assist.
- Infotainment: The True Touchpad Interface uses a touch-sensing pad instead of a touchscreen, and it is designed to mirror the screen rather than function like a conventional laptop-style pad. The content does not state wireless smartphone integration or over-the-air capability.
- Fuel efficiency: The content does not state MPG or MPGe figures.
Which 2021 Acura RDX trim should I buy?
The 2021 Acura RDX is offered in 4 trim levels: RDX, Technology Package, A-Spec Package, Advance Package.
Here's the short version:
- RDX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core RDX formula: strong performance, a polished cabin, and standard AcuraWatch. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert.
- Technology Package: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the safety equipment missing from the base model, including blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert. If you want the smartest balance of equipment and price, start here.
- A-Spec Package: Choose this if you care most about style and a sportier cabin. It adds the most distinctive appearance and interior treatment, but it does not add extra performance over the other trims.
- Advance Package: Pick this if you want the most fully equipped version. It adds all of the extras and is the trim to consider if comfort and convenience matter more than price.
For safety, remember that blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not standard on the base trim and require at least the Technology Package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Acura RDX?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,307 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.30% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $26,968, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Acura RDX's resale value?
The current average of $27,718 sits slightly below last year's $28,963.
That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper resale upside if you sell soon. For a future seller, the good news is that the RDX still has broad appeal thanks to its value, comfort, and strong driving dynamics. A model with clean history and desirable equipment should remain easier to move than one with missing features or visible wear.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.69/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Acura RDX safe?
The 2021 Acura RDX earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA overall, though it also earns four-star frontal-impact and four-star rollover resistance ratings from NHTSA.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
AcuraWatch is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. However, blind-spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert are not standard on the base trim, so you need to move up to at least the Technology Package for those features. The system is described as smoother, more accurate, and more refined than Acura’s setup in the outgoing MDX, which is a plus for everyday use.
The main caveat is that the base trim leaves out some useful modern safety tech, so you should pay close attention to trim level if safety equipment matters to you.
Should I buy a 2021 Acura RDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.30% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.69/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It brings Acura’s latest styling and the rethought True Touchpad Interface.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $24,866, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $27,718 average.
- It offers strong value with plenty of space and safety tech.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $31,345, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,718 average.
- It adds fresh styling, a quieter cabin, and more equipment.
The bottom line: If you want the newest-feeling version of this generation without stepping up to the higher-priced 2022, the 2021 is the right target. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value play, while the 2022 makes sense only if you want the added updates and are willing to pay more.
