CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Volvo XC60
Summary
With 79 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,473, 34.2% of 2020 Volvo XC60 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Volvo XC60 4.5 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Volvo XC60 stands out as a premium compact crossover that blends Volvo’s familiar safety focus with a clean Scandinavian design and a five-passenger cabin. It is also part of a lineup that has built its reputation on standard safety tech and fuel-efficient powertrains, which helps explain why the XC60 has been such a strong seller.
For 2020, the XC60 gained some notable updates. The model year saw a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a new Polestar Engineered model, and standard automatic braking. It also sat within a second-generation range that offered a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with 250 horsepower, a supercharged and turbocharged inline four with 316 hp, and a plug-in hybrid version with 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque, all paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive at launch. Standard equipment included a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights, and a nine-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
The 2020 XC60 is appealing if you want a luxury SUV that emphasizes safety, technology, and efficiency without feeling overly flashy. Its strengths are clear: strong safety credentials, a well-equipped cabin, and a broad range of powertrains. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though, since the XC60 can be pricey and the model line is also described as having jerky acceleration and braking, along with tight rear-seat legroom.

This car is exceptional. It’s clean, peppy, and is riddled with a ton of technology and features. The seats are amazingly comfortable. I would compare it to an Augo Q3, BMW X3 or an Acura. RDX.

The current average of $21,852 sits slightly below last year's $24,262.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. Well-kept examples should still attract attention, especially if they present as clean, well-equipped luxury SUVs.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.93% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $23,697, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $21,852 average.
- It adds a more polished, stylish feel with stronger everyday appeal.
The bottom line:
Choose the 2020 if you want the better value and a wider pool of discounted listings. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer-year premium, the 2021 is the better secondary path for buyers who care more about refinement than price.
