How much does the 2020 Toyota Tacoma cost?

There are 4,157 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of trucks to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Toyota Tacoma earns 4.32/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety.

Drivers repeatedly praise its reliability, performance, and design, and many also value its practicality and strong off-road capability. On the downside, some owners mention high pricing and missing features such as heated seats and navigation.

The Tacoma fits you best if you want a rugged midsize pickup with a strong truck identity, useful updates for 2020, and a reputation for capability over polish. Its easy-to-use technology and standard advanced safety features help offset the rougher edges.

35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.32/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to reliability, dependability, and a truck that many drivers feel they can count on over time. The expert notes also emphasize its durable, old-school character and the sense that it is built for long-term use rather than flash.

The Tacoma’s straightforward mechanical setup and truck-first design support that reputation, though its rougher driving manners mean you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and overall condition on any used example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Tacoma?

At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, frame, suspension, and signs of hard use. Because this truck is often bought for capability, condition matters as much as mileage, especially if you’re considering one that may have seen off-road or towing duty.

Look closely at trim-specific equipment, tire wear, and whether the truck’s features match the listing description. If you want a cleaner ownership experience, focus on trucks with complete records and fewer signs of heavy use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SR and SR5 are the only trims with the 2.7-liter four-cylinder, while higher trims move to the V6 and add more capability; the Limited is the most comfort-oriented, while the TRD Pro adds the most aggressive off-road hardware and unique styling touches.
• Powertrain: The 2.7-liter engine makes 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, while the 3.5-liter V6 makes 278 hp and 265 lb-ft; 4WD is standard on the TRD Pro and optional on other trims, and the manual is limited to TRD Off-Road and Pro models.
• Safety package: Standard driver assists include adaptive cruise control, forward-emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning; blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors are optional, and the Technology Package adds blind-spot monitoring on recommended builds.
• Infotainment: A 7-inch touchscreen is standard, an 8-inch unit is available, and Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa come standard; wireless phone charging and onboard Wi-Fi are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The inline-four returns 20 mpg city, 23 highway, 21 combined, while the V6 returns 18 city, 22 highway, 20 combined.

Which 2020 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 4 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and can live with the 2.7-liter four-cylinder, but it’s the least appealing choice if you care about power or features.
• SR5: This is the better everyday pick because it opens the door to the V6 and gives you a more balanced starting point for most buyers.
• TRD Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more capability and equipment without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
• TRD Pro: This is the one to buy if you want the most off-road-focused Tacoma, with standard 4WD and the most aggressive hardware and styling.

The safety package includes standard adaptive cruise control, forward-emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning, while blind-spot monitoring remains optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Tacoma?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep discounts everywhere.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,157 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.85% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,306, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $30,565 sits slightly below last year's $31,139.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, the current trend is a reminder that resale value can move with broader demand and inventory conditions, even for a popular truck.

The Tacoma’s strong reputation and steady shopper interest should still support demand when you eventually sell. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history should remain easier to move than rougher trucks.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.32/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2020 Toyota Tacoma earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and side barrier and pole tests, and five-star ratings for rear passengers in NHTSA testing. It is also an IIHS Top Safety Pick, with Good ratings in five of six crash tests and an Acceptable result for the front passenger in the small overlap test.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors are optional, so you’ll want to confirm whether a used truck has the driver-assistance features you want.

The lower Acceptable small-overlap result is the main caveat to keep in mind, especially if you’re comparing it with newer rivals.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Prices have softened 1.85% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.32/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds useful design and technology updates while keeping the Tacoma’s proven truck character.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $29,085, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $30,565 average.
• It emphasizes raw honesty and loyal-following appeal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,251, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $30,565 average.
• It adds two special editions and standard dual-zone climate control on V6 models.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, updates, and broad used-market availability, the 2020 is the smart default. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the newer-year tweaks and are willing to pay more.
