How much does the 2020 Toyota RAV4 cost?

Prices have softened 2.51% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,198 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2020 Toyota RAV4 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota RAV4 earns a 4.6/5 user rating and an 8.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10. Owners consistently praise its combination of performance, reliability, and comfort, and they also highlight its safety features and fuel efficiency. In expert testing, it comes across as comfortable and easy to live with, which fits its role as a practical family vehicle and daily commuter. The main trade-off is poor fuel economy, and some owners wish for more features such as remote start and leather seats. With 33.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Toyota RAV4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Owner feedback points to reliability, comfort, and a trouble-free ownership experience as major reasons people like it, and many describe it as dependable for family use. Expert testing also emphasizes that it is comfortable, practical, and good to drive, which supports the idea that it should be easy to live with over time. Toyota’s included free scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 25,000 miles adds another ownership perk. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure a specific example has been maintained well and hasn’t picked up costly wear from hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota RAV4?

At 71.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of prior bodywork or neglected upkeep. If you’re comparing multiple examples, the cleanest history and best documentation should carry extra weight.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, and Limited. The LE starts the range, while the XLE is the best-value choice if you want the strongest blend of equipment and value. Higher trims add more comfort and capability, and the TRD Off-Road brings a more rugged setup with unique wheels, all-terrain tires, and TRD suspension.
• Powertrain: The gasoline model uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid is a separate model and is not part of the gas-only trim lineup.
• Safety package: Every 2020 RAV4 includes Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, with Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, radar adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, front and rear parking assist with automated braking, and blind spot assist with rear cross-traffic alert. The full LED, curve adaptive headlights are important because the Top Safety Pick rating applies only to models equipped with them.
• Infotainment: Depending on trim, you get a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM, connected services, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot are included, and the system can be upgraded with navigation, JBL audio, wireless smartphone charging, a 360-degree camera, and a digital rear-view mirror.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test vehicle averaged 23.4 mpg, and the official EPA estimate cited in testing was 27 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2020 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the RAV4 lineup and are comfortable with the essentials.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim. It’s the one the test-drive data points to for the strongest blend of equipment and value, especially if you add the top option package.
• XLE Premium: Choose this if you want a step up in comfort and features without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
• Adventure: This trim is aimed at buyers who want more rugged character and added off-road capability.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the most specialized choice, with TRD suspension, all-terrain tires, and torque-vectoring AWD. It suits you best if you want the most trail-ready gas RAV4.
• Limited: Pick this if you want the most upscale gas RAV4 experience and are willing to pay for it.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, but the Top Safety Pick rating applies only to models with the full LED, curve adaptive headlights.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota RAV4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,198 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.51% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,596, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $23,306 sits slightly below last year's $23,907.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also suggests future sellers may need to stay competitive when it’s time to list. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to limit depreciation losses later. Demand should remain supported by the RAV4’s broad appeal, practical reputation, and strong owner satisfaction.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota RAV4 safe?

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, but only when equipped with the full LED, curve adaptive headlights.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2020 RAV4 includes Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which brings Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, radar adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, front and rear parking assist with automated braking, and blind spot assist with rear cross-traffic alert. Toyota also includes Safety Connect with automatic collision notification, an SOS emergency assistance button, and enhanced roadside assistance. The main caveat is that the IIHS Top Safety Pick rating depends on the right headlight setup, so you should verify that equipment on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert testing highlights easy-to-use technology, a comfortable cabin, and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $22,288, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $23,306 average.
• It adds bold styling and new tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,617, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $23,306 average.
• It adds the RAV4 Prime and broader trim choices.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the right default if you want the strongest mix of tech, comfort, and safety at a softened used price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the newer lineup changes and are willing to pay more.
