How much does the 2020 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices are up 1.42% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 333 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota Prius a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota Prius earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its impressive gas mileage, practicality, cargo space, handling, and value for money. The Prius also stands out for its standard safety features and everyday usefulness, while some shoppers may miss luxury touches like GPS and leather seats.

The main trade-off is its potentially polarizing design, and the expert review also notes that some buyers may want more upscale features. For your needs, it makes the most sense if you want a hybrid that prioritizes efficiency and usefulness over flash.

33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Toyota Prius reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that owners trust for dependable daily use, with repeated praise for its practical, trouble-free nature and strong long-term value. The expert review also emphasizes reliability, efficiency, safety, and economy as core strengths, reinforcing the Prius’s reputation as a low-hassle ownership choice.

The cost-effectiveness review also highlights strong warranty coverage, including hybrid-component and battery protection, which can help reduce ownership anxiety. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical complexity and more about finding a well-kept example with the features and condition you want.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Prius?

At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and pay close attention to accident records, title status, and service history. A pre-purchase inspection is especially worthwhile if you’re comparing multiple listings, since condition can vary even within the same model year. Focus on how the car presents inside and out, and make sure the equipment you want is actually present on the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L Eco comes standard with 15-inch alloy wheels with wheel covers, automatic climate control, cloth upholstery, push-button start, three USB ports, Bluetooth, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa compatibility. The LE adds a rear windshield wiper, front-and-rear parking sensors, seat-back pockets, a tonneau cover, and additional driver-assistance features. The XLE adds 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, synthetic leather upholstery, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and wireless device charging. The Limited adds adaptive, self-leveling headlights, a head-up display, satellite radio, HD Radio, and an 11.6-inch touchscreen, but that larger screen loses Android Auto support.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor and battery for 121 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque, with front-wheel drive. An all-wheel-drive variant is also available, using a second electric motor to power the rear wheels at speeds up to 43 mph. The review also notes smooth, confident acceleration and a seamless handoff between electric and conventional power.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front-and-rear parking sensors, active park assist, and lane-tracing assist. Lower trims may require stepping up for some of those extras.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, WiFi hotspot, and three USB ports. The Limited upgrades to an 11.6-inch screen with a portrait layout and split-screen capability, but it loses Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The Eco trim returns 58 mpg city, 53 mpg highway, and 56 mpg combined. The standard Prius returns 54 mpg city, 50 mpg highway, and 52 mpg combined, while all-wheel drive lowers estimates to 52 mpg city, 48 mpg highway, and 50 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: L Eco, LE, XLE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L Eco: This is the efficiency-first choice, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting point with standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and the core Prius hybrid experience.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades like parking sensors, a rear windshield wiper, and extra driver-assistance features without jumping too far up the range.
• XLE: Choose this if you want a more comfortable and upscale-feeling Prius, thanks to heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, synthetic leather upholstery, and wireless charging.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, with the largest touchscreen, head-up display, and premium audio-related upgrades, but the loss of Android Auto on the bigger screen is worth noting.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, and that makes even the lower trims a strong safety starting point.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Prius?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 333 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.42% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 66.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,071, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $20,718 sits slightly above last year's $20,428.

That upward move suggests the Prius is holding value reasonably well, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. Demand appears steady enough that buyers are still willing to pay near the middle of the market rather than waiting for deep discounts.

Because the year-over-year change is positive, you can expect a used Prius to remain relatively resilient if it stays clean and well maintained. Strong efficiency, practicality, and broad shopper appeal should continue to support future resale interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Prius safe?

The Prius earns a five-star rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick accolade from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Available upgrades include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front-and-rear parking sensors, active park assist, and lane-tracing assist.

One caveat is that the Prius fell short of IIHS’s highest rating because of average scores in the passenger-side small overlap front crash test and headlight testing.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.42% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review emphasizes the Prius’s role as a benchmark hybrid with strong efficiency, practicality, and everyday drivability.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $20,087, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $20,718 average.
• It adds a revised trim strategy and an available electric AWD option.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,107, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,718 average.
• It makes Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 standard across the board and adds Android Auto standard on most trims.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, availability, and proven hybrid appeal, the 2020 is the sensible pick. If you’re shopping strictly on price, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 is worth a look if you want the newer standard tech and safety setup.
