Used 2020 Toyota Avalon for Sale nearColumbia, SC

How much does the 2020 Toyota Avalon cost?

Prices are up 1.30% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 293 listings available, which suggests limited inventory for shoppers to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The Avalon stands out as Toyota’s full-size sedan flagship, and its move to the TNGA platform helped revitalize the car and give it a more modern feel. It also brings a spacious cabin and a sense of occasion that is increasingly rare in this segment.

One trade-off is value: the expert test-drive data describes it as poor value for money. The Avalon also leans more toward comfort and refinement than excitement, even though it has enough power to feel confident in everyday driving.

There are 43.7% good or great deals in the market, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Avalon’s reliability case is supported by Toyota’s reputation for solid build quality and by the car’s well-finished cabin. The expert data also points to a smooth, quiet highway ride and a powertrain that feels strong enough for the car’s size.

Toyota’s 3.5-liter V6 uses D-4S Dual Injection and variable valve timing, and the car’s standard eight-speed automatic is part of a mature, conventional setup. The Avalon also comes with a six-month trial of Verizon WiFi Connect, which adds a small ownership perk.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical complexity and more about paying too much for a car whose value proposition is already stretched.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota Avalon?

At 66.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you get serious about any listing, and you should prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the car has been in a collision. Focus on bodywork quality, panel alignment, tire wear, and whether the safety systems and electronics behave as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XLE uses 17-inch wheels, while Limited gets 18-inch wheels and XSE, Touring, and TRD use 19-inch wheels. The cabin is upscale across the range, but the higher trims add more visual presence and equipment.
• Powertrain: The Avalon uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. Fuel economy is estimated at 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined for XLE, and 22/31/25 mpg combined for XSE, TRD, Limited, and Touring.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard, while Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking is limited to Limited and Touring.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses a 9-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa In-Car App, and Siri Eyes Free. Android Auto is not available, and Touring and Limited can get a premium audio system with 14 speakers and 1,200 watts.
• Fuel efficiency: The Avalon XLE is rated at 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined, while XSE, TRD, Limited, and Touring are rated at 22 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Toyota Avalon trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota Avalon is offered in 5 trim levels: XLE, XSE, TRD, Limited, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• XLE: This is the value-oriented choice if you want the Avalon’s core strengths without paying for extras. You still get the 9-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and the full standard safety suite, so it covers the essentials well.
• XSE: This trim adds a more athletic look with 19-inch wheels and is a good fit if you want the Avalon to feel a little sharper without moving into the pricier upper trims.
• TRD: This is the most distinctive choice if you want the Avalon’s sportiest setup, with track-tuned coil springs and 19-inch wheels. It suits buyers who care more about character than luxury extras.
• Limited: This is the best-value upscale pick if you want more comfort and tech, including the premium audio system and available head-up display. It also unlocks Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking.
• Touring: This trim is for buyers who want the adaptive suspension and the same premium tech and display features as Limited, with a more performance-flavored setup.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, but Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking is reserved for Limited and Touring.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota Avalon?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 43.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 293 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.30% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 66.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,925, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota Avalon's resale value?

The current average of $27,931 sits slightly above last year's $27,574.

That modest increase suggests the Avalon is holding value reasonably well in the current market. If you buy carefully, you may be able to preserve more of your investment than you would with a car whose prices are falling quickly.

The Avalon’s limited supply also helps support pricing, especially for well-kept examples with clean histories and desirable equipment. For a future seller, that means condition and trim choice should matter a lot when it comes time to list the car.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota Avalon safe?

The 2020 Toyota Avalon earns Good ratings from IIHS in all crash tests and other safety categories except headlights on XLE and XSE trim levels, which are rated Poor. It also earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, hill-start assist, and an anti-theft system with alarm and immobilizer are also standard.

The main safety caveat is the headlight result on XLE and XSE, so if you shop those trims, pay close attention to nighttime visibility and lighting equipment.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 43.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.30% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 Avalon benefits from the TNGA-based fifth-generation redesign and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $24,072, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $27,931 average.
• It brings new tech, more power, and a more modern feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $28,044, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,931 average.
• It remains roomy and comfortable, with TRD adding extra performance and style.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the right pick if you want the Avalon’s refreshed design, strong safety, and flagship feel. If price matters most, the 2019 is the smarter value play; if you want a newer alternative and can spend a bit more, the 2021 is worth a look.
