Is the 2020 RAM 3500 a good car?

Owners consistently praise its power and towing capacity, and they also highlight the comfort of the interior and the advanced features like the large display. Is the 2020 RAM 3500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a truck that feels dependable in the ways that matter most to heavy-duty buyers, especially when it comes to power and towing confidence. At the same time, some owners mention specific mechanical concerns, including the CP4 pump and DPF filter, which can affect long-term ownership costs. For used buyers, that means reliability can be strong, but you should pay close attention to maintenance history and condition before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 RAM 3500?

At 69.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether the truck has any accident, title, or structural damage in its past. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to mechanical condition and any signs of expensive diesel-related maintenance. Because this truck is often used for hard work, you should focus on wear, service records, and overall condition rather than mileage alone.

What is the 2020 RAM 3500's resale value?

The current average of $44,457 sits slightly below last year's $50,317.

That price movement suggests the truck has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy well and keep the truck in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who paid closer to the prior-year average. Demand should also remain supported by the truck’s strong owner satisfaction and heavy-duty appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 RAM 3500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2020 if you want a strong mix of capability, comfort, and current market value, especially since prices have eased and owner satisfaction is high. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby year may still be worth comparing, but the 2020 stands out as a balanced choice for buyers who want a heavy-duty truck with broad appeal.
