How much does the 2020 RAM 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 8.21% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 13,578 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 RAM 1500 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, smooth ride, and spacious interior, and many describe it as a luxury truck. The user feedback also points to a powerful engine and comfortable passenger space, which fits the truck’s everyday-comfort focus.

The trade-offs are that Bluetooth connectivity can be frustrating and storage solutions may leave you wanting more. In practice, that means you’re looking at a truck that leans hard into refinement and comfort, especially if you want a pickup that works well for commuting and family use.

The market also looks reasonably favorable, with 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that feels dependable in daily use, with a smooth, trouble-free character that many buyers seem comfortable living with over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes improved power delivery and drivability, which supports the sense that the truck is engineered to be easy to live with.

The cost-effectiveness notes add that you can get strong capability without overpaying for equipment you may not want. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific truck you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been overworked.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 RAM 1500?

At 70.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, frame areas, and any signs of prior repair. It’s also smart to focus on how the truck drives, since comfort and drivability are central to this model’s appeal.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tradesman starts with 18-inch steel wheels, vinyl upholstery and flooring, a bench seat, a 6-speaker stereo, a 5-inch touchscreen, and basic convenience features, while the Big Horn adds foglights, carpet, tinted windows, and available upgrades like 20-inch wheels, air suspension, dual-zone climate control, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen. The Laramie adds leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, parking sensors, and more tech, while the Limited adds standard air suspension, premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and more safety equipment.
• Powertrain: The base 3.6-liter V6 makes 305 horsepower and uses an eTorque mild-hybrid system, while the optional 5.7-liter V8 makes 395 hp and 410 lb-ft. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 returns with 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque, and the expert notes say it improves power, efficiency, and delivery.
• Safety package: The available safety suite includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and auto emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a self-parking system with a 360-degree camera. Some of these features are limited to higher trims, so base trucks can be much lighter on driver assistance.
• Infotainment: The truck offers a 5-inch touchscreen on lower trims, an 8.4-inch touchscreen on mid-level trims, and an available 12-inch tablet-style touchscreen. The system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and the tech package also includes push-button start plus plenty of USB and USB-C ports.
• Fuel efficiency: The 3.6-liter V6 is rated at 20 mpg city, 26 highway, and 23 combined, while the 5.7-liter V8 returns up to 17/23/19. The EcoDiesel’s mixed-driving result was 15.4 mpg in the expert test.

Which 2020 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2020 RAM 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the truck’s core capability without paying for luxury extras. It gives you the basics, and the expert notes make clear that the Ram can still be a strong work-truck choice at this level.
• Big Horn: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more polished look and unlocks desirable options like the larger touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, and air suspension. If you want the sweet spot between price and comfort, this is the trim to target.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want the more aggressive off-road setup, including lifted suspension, off-road tires, skid plates, tow hooks, and the diesel engine availability. It’s the right pick if you want a more rugged personality than the mainstream trims.
• Laramie: This is the comfort-oriented choice, with leather, heated and ventilated front seats, parking sensors, and upgraded tech. It suits you best if you want a more upscale daily driver.
• Laramie Longhorn: This trim leans further into luxury with upgraded leather, wood accents, heated and ventilated rear seating, navigation, and more exterior flair. It’s for buyers who want a premium-feeling truck with a distinctive cabin.
• Limited: This is the most upscale trim, with standard air suspension, premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and added safety equipment. If you want the most complete package, this is the top choice.

Advanced safety features are not standard, so you’ll want to pay close attention to trim and option content if safety tech matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 13,578 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.21% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,193, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $27,193 sits slightly below last year's $29,626.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also mean future resale gains are limited. If you’re planning to sell later, the current pricing trend implies you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment.

The good news is that strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it’s time to resell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2020 RAM 1500 earns a Top Safety Pick Plus from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The available safety suite includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and auto emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a self-parking system with a 360-degree camera. Some of those features are limited to higher trims, so safety equipment can vary a lot depending on the truck you choose.

One important caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should verify exactly what’s installed on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2020 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The EcoDiesel returns for every trim, broadening powertrain choice across the lineup.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $23,488, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $27,193 average.
• It emphasizes comfort, refinement, and commuter-friendly usability.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,732, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,193 average.
• It adds the TRX and a more performance-focused personality.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and the EcoDiesel’s return, the 2020 is the smart default. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2019 is the cheaper path; if you want more performance and can spend more, the 2021 is the upgrade to consider.
