How much does the 2020 RAM 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 7.73% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 9,687 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 RAM 1500 earns a 4.75/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, smooth ride, and spacious interior, and many describe it as a luxury truck. The user feedback also points to a powerful engine and a comfortable cabin for passengers. On the downside, some owners mention Bluetooth connectivity issues and limited storage.

That lines up with the truck’s use-case: it’s aimed at buyers who want a full-size pickup that feels more polished and comfortable than purely utilitarian. The market also shows 34.8% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck people feel good about living with over time, especially because it’s described as luxurious, smooth, and comfortable. The expert notes also emphasize the updated EcoDiesel’s improved power, efficiency, and delivery, which supports the sense that the powertrain lineup was engineered to be more refined and dependable in daily use.

The truck’s broad powertrain choices and updated hardware suggest solid long-term ownership potential, but used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and how the diesel or other powertrain was used.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 RAM 1500?

At 71% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim truck with more equipment. Focus on condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific truck you’re looking at.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tradesman starts with steel wheels, vinyl upholstery and flooring, a bench seat, and a 5-inch touchscreen, while the Big Horn adds foglights, carpet, tinted windows, and more available comfort and tech. The Laramie brings leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and parking sensors, while the Limited adds premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and more upscale equipment.
• Powertrain: The base 3.6-liter V6 uses eTorque and is paired with an 8-speed transmission, while the optional 5.7-liter V8 delivers more power and towing ability. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 returns with strong torque and improved delivery, but it still deserves a careful test drive.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance setup includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and auto emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a self-parking system with a 360-degree camera. Some of these features are limited to higher trims, so verify equipment carefully.
• Infotainment: The truck comes with a 5-inch touchscreen on lower trims, while higher trims can get an 8.4-inch screen or a 12-inch tablet-style touchscreen. Smartphone integration is available on the larger screen, and the system also supports over-the-air-style convenience through its connected setup.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 can return 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 23 combined when properly configured, while the V8 can return up to 17/23/19. The EcoDiesel is described as efficient, though the expert drive notes do not give a specific mpg figure.

Which 2020 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2020 RAM 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Tradesman, Big Horn, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the truck’s core capability without paying for extras. It gives you the basics, including a rear-view camera, push-button ignition, and a 5-inch touchscreen, and it makes sense if you want a work-ready truck and plan to add only the equipment you need.
• Big Horn: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more polished look and opens the door to desirable comfort and tech upgrades. If you want a better-equipped daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the trim to target.
• Rebel: Choose this if you want the more aggressive off-road personality and the equipment that goes with it. It adds a lifted suspension, off-road tires, skid plates, tow hooks, and a more rugged setup that suits buyers who want capability and attitude.
• Laramie: This is the comfort-and-tech step up, with leather, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and more premium cabin features. It’s a strong fit if you want the truck to feel closer to a luxury vehicle.
• Laramie Longhorn: Pick this if you want upscale materials and more premium interior touches, including leather with wood inserts, heated and ventilated rear seating, navigation, and more exterior flair. It’s for buyers who want a high-end truck experience.
• Limited: This is the top luxury choice, with standard air suspension, premium leather, power-retractable side steps, and added safety equipment. It’s the right pick if you want the most refined version of the truck.

Advanced safety features are not standard, so if driver assistance matters to you, check the equipment list carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 RAM 1500?

The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,687 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.73% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,638, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $27,638 sits slightly below last year's $29,953.

That softer pricing suggests the truck has become more approachable for used buyers, which can help keep demand steady if you decide to sell later. A lower entry price today may also make it easier for your truck to stay competitive against newer listings with similar equipment.

Because the model has strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal, it should remain attractive to shoppers who want comfort, capability, and a premium feel in a full-size pickup. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2020 RAM 1500 earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick Plus rating from IIHS, though that IIHS result applies only to the Crew Cab with all active safety equipment and optional LED lights.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The available driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a self-parking system with a 360-degree camera. Some of those features are limited to higher trims, so you’ll want to verify exactly what’s installed on the truck you’re considering.

One important caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so lower trims may leave you without the equipment you want unless you shop carefully.

Should I buy a 2020 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out because the EcoDiesel returns and is available across the lineup.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $23,979, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $27,638 average.
• It emphasizes comfort and refinement while still working well as a daily driver.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,185, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,638 average.
• It adds more capability and personality, including a high-performance off-road focus.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the right pick if you want the EcoDiesel return, strong safety, and a well-rounded full-size truck with broad trim choice. If your priority is saving money, the 2019 is the better value play; if you want a newer truck with more performance-oriented character, the 2021 is worth a look.
