What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC?

At 72.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, electronics, and interior condition. Because the model is positioned as a premium compact SUV, you’ll want to pay close attention to how well the cabin has held up and whether the technology and driver-assistance features operate correctly. If you’re comparing listings, focus on maintenance records, accident history, and signs of wear that could affect long-term ownership costs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GLC 300 is the core model, and the AMG versions add more visual drama with wide tires, a vertical-bar grille, and a lower stance. The Coupe also changes the roofline for a more distinctive look.
• Powertrain: The GLC 300 uses a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 255 horsepower and a 9-speed automatic, with rear-wheel drive or 4Matic all-wheel drive depending on configuration. AMG versions step up to much stronger V6 and V8 options.
• Safety package: The standard safety setup includes forward emergency braking, Exit Warning Assist, Pre-Safe Sound, and Predictive Brake Priming. The GLC also includes standard blind-spot-monitoring radar sensors for Exit Warning Assist.
• Infotainment: A standard 10.3-inch touchscreen is included, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and a 12.3-inch display can replace the analog gauges and central display. Wireless device charging is optional.
• Fuel efficiency: The tested GLC 300 4Matic returned 21 mpg city, 28 highway, and 24 combined, with an observed average of just under 22 mpg over 430 miles.

Which 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC is offered in 4 trim levels: GLC 300, GLC 300 Coupe, AMG GLC 43, AMG GLC 63.

Here's the short version:

• GLC 300: This is the best-value choice if you want the core GLC experience with standard MBUX, heated front seats, LED headlights, and the broadest balance of price and equipment.
• GLC 300 Coupe: Choose this if you want the same basic formula with a more distinctive fastback shape, but expect to pay more for the style.
• AMG GLC 43: This is the step-up pick for buyers who want much stronger performance and a more exciting driving character than the standard model.
• AMG GLC 63: This is the top performance choice, with the most power and the most aggressive hardware, but it is the least budget-friendly option.

The safety package includes standard forward emergency braking and Exit Warning Assist, which are important features to confirm on any listing.

• Deal availability: 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,892 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.64% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.7% of listings are accident-free.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC's resale value?

The current average of $22,814 sits slightly below last year's $24,972.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Listings with clean history and strong equipment should be easier to move than rougher examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC safe?

The GLC was named a 2019 Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it scored the top rating in all six crash tests. It also earned five-star ratings in all crash tests from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety setup includes forward emergency braking, Exit Warning Assist, Pre-Safe Sound, and Predictive Brake Priming. Exit Warning Assist is a notable 2020 addition, using rear bumper radar sensors to warn occupants if a cyclist or car is approaching after shutdown. The expert review also highlights the GLC’s strong safety engineering as a major strength.

Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.64% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 adds a standard 10.3-inch touchscreen and Exit Warning Assist.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,321, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,814 average.
• It adds a more polished blend of performance, comfort, and cutting-edge technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the better path for shoppers who want the latest refinement and can stretch their budget.
