Drivers consistently praise the CX-9 for its safety features, comfortable ride, and premium feel, and many also like its performance and upscale cabin. If you want a three-row SUV that feels more polished and engaging than many family haulers, this model year fits that use case well. Is the 2020 Mazda CX-9 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.92/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary also points to a vehicle that owners trust for its safety features, comfortable ride, and overall dependability. That kind of feedback suggests the CX-9 can be a reassuring choice if you want a used SUV you can count on over time.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been well maintained and not hiding prior damage.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mazda CX-9?

At 65.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with past damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, repair quality, and signs of wear that could affect long-term ownership.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mazda CX-9?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

If you find a listing below $19,480, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mazda CX-9's resale value?

The current average of $19,600 sits slightly below last year's $21,112.

That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle, but it also means future resale will depend heavily on how well the market holds up. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to sell. Listings with cleaner histories and stronger perceived value tend to be easier to move later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.92/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Mazda CX-9 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.16% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.92/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $18,119, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $19,600 average.
• It offers a roomier, safer cabin with a more polished driving feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $22,115, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $19,600 average.
• It adds a more upscale feel with improved model-year changes.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the best primary path if you want a strong mix of value, owner satisfaction, and premium character. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 is the better secondary path because it undercuts the current-year average while keeping much of the CX-9's appeal.
