Why it stands out
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator stands out as Lincoln’s return to a more focused luxury identity, with a stylish design and a comfortable cabin that aim to make it feel like a true premium SUV. It is a midsize, 3-row luxury SUV, and Lincoln positions it as a fresh, all-new entry built on the contemporary Explorer platform rather than a simple badge exercise. That combination gives it a distinctive place in the lineup: it is meant to be a luxury vehicle in its own right, not just a familiar utility vehicle with upscale trim.
Its appeal is strengthened by multiple powertrain options, which broaden its reach for buyers who want both luxury and flexibility. The Aviator also promises a smooth ride and advanced features, and owners frequently praise its luxurious feel, powerful performance, spacious interior, adaptive cruise control, and comfortable seating. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: the ergonomic design is a weak point, the third row is cramped, and some drivers are unhappy with the automatic transmission’s shifting.

Great features. This is the highest level trim. Doing some research the reliability for 2020 Aviators is low. It appears that was the first year the car was sold. Decided to pursue a 2021 model.

We were delighted with the purchase of the Lincoln Aviator. We enjoy the large sunroof, seating for seven (heated and cooled seats in second row), and the adaptive cruise control. The vehicle helps steer itself and adjusts speeds not only when coming up on other vehicles, but changes the speed when speed limits change. Very comfortable ride and is very responsive with the twin turbo engine. It is a well designed vehicle!

| Year-Round High | $32,021 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $32,018 |

Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Lincoln Aviator earns a 4.61/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, powerful performance, and spacious interior. They also highlight the smooth ride, advanced features, adaptive cruise control, and comfortable seating.
The main trade-offs are the automatic transmission’s shifting and the higher price point relative to some rivals. In use, that means you’re looking at a midsize, 3-row luxury SUV that leans hard into comfort and refinement rather than bargain pricing or sporty sharpness.
Good and great deals account for 32.4% of listings, so you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator reliable?
Owners rate it 4.61/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels luxurious, powerful, and comfortable over time, with many drivers describing it as smooth and well-equipped. That kind of praise suggests you can count on it to deliver the premium experience buyers expect from a luxury SUV.
The expert evaluation also emphasizes soft refinement and confident acceleration, which supports the idea that the Aviator is built for relaxed, dependable daily use rather than constant drama. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the transmission behavior and overall condition match the premium image.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Lincoln Aviator?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any specific listing and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples or vehicles with optional equipment. Focus on cabin condition, seat wear, electronics, and how the transmission behaves on a test drive.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Standard trim comes with three-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes a WiFi hotspot, four USB ports, and satellite radio, while the Reserve adds second-row captain's chairs, 12-way power front seats, upgraded leather, a hands-free power liftgate, a Revel premium sound system, quad-zone climate control, a surround-view camera system, and navigation. The Standard is the best-value trim because it already brings a strong luxury feature set.
- Powertrain: The standard setup is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic. The Grand Touring adds a 100-hp electric motor, battery pack, and charging port for a net 494 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque, and both versions are described as quick and hushed.
- Safety package: Lincoln Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is also included, but some additional driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve.
- Infotainment: The Aviator uses a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, wireless-style convenience through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and a fully digital instrument panel. The available head-up display adds another layer of information without cluttering the cabin.
- Fuel efficiency: The conventionally powered Aviator with RWD returns 18 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined. With AWD, it drops to 17 mpg city, 24 highway, 20 combined. The PHEV drivetrain is rated at 23 mpg combined, with a 21-mile electric-only range and 56 miles per gallon equivalent combined.
Which 2020 Lincoln Aviator trim should I buy?
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator is offered in 5 trim levels: Standard, Reserve, Grand Touring, Black Label, and Black Label Grand Touring.
Here's the short version:
- Standard: This is the trim to start with if you want the strongest value. It already includes leather upholstery, heated front seats, parking sensors, three-zone climate control, and the full Sync 3 setup with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Reserve: This trim adds meaningful comfort and convenience upgrades like second-row captain's chairs, upgraded leather, a hands-free power liftgate, a premium sound system, quad-zone climate control, a surround-view camera system, and navigation. It’s the best fit if you want a more upscale cabin without jumping to the highest prices.
- Grand Touring: This is the pick if you want the plug-in hybrid drivetrain and the extra equipment that comes with it. It layers in more luxury content and delivers the strongest performance figures in the lineup.
- Black Label: This is the most luxurious non-hybrid choice, with nearly every feature you can get and unique upholstery choices. It’s for buyers who want the richest cabin experience and are willing to pay for it.
- Black Label Grand Touring: This combines the Black Label luxury treatment with the plug-in hybrid drivetrain, making it the most fully loaded version of the Aviator.
Lincoln Co-Pilot360 is standard, but some additional driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Lincoln Aviator?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s-market fire sale.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 904 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.91% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $28,203, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator's resale value?
The current average of $28,203 sits slightly below last year's $32,018.
That price movement suggests the Aviator has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell.
The current pricing also shows that shoppers are still willing to pay for this model’s luxury positioning, especially when the equipment and condition are strong. That matters because premium SUVs tend to hold value better when buyers see a clear feature advantage.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.61/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator safe?
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
It comes with a full array of front and side-impact airbags, traction control, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Lincoln Co-Pilot360 adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams, while blind-spot monitoring is also included.
That gives you a strong standard safety foundation for a luxury SUV, though some additional driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve. For used buyers, that means you should confirm exactly which safety equipment is installed on the specific vehicle you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2020 Lincoln Aviator or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.91% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 introduces Lincoln’s all-new Aviator with a luxury-first design and multiple powertrain choices.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $30,854, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,203 average.
- It adds modern technology, potent drivetrain options, and a cabin with more creature comforts.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because pricing has eased and the feature set is already strong. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the cleaner upgrade path for buyers who want a bit more refinement and are less price-sensitive.
