CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Lexus NX
Summary
With 58 currently listed for sale and an average price of $28,000, 74.1% of 2020 Lexus NX listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Lexus NX 4.8 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Lexus NX stands out for combining a distinctive, angular design with the kind of reliability Lexus is known for. It is also appealing because it brings a luxury feel to the compact SUV class without losing the brand’s emphasis on efficiency and everyday usability. Owners commonly praise the interior quality and technology, and the NX’s Apple CarPlay support is a recurring highlight.
What makes the 2020 NX especially distinctive is its broad mix of powertrains and its strong safety and convenience equipment. The lineup includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 235 horsepower and a hybrid that pairs a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for 194 horsepower. The hybrid is the more fuel-efficient choice, with EPA combined figures of 33 mpg for FWD versions and 32 mpg for AWD models, while the gas model is rated at 25 mpg for FWD and 24 mpg for AWD. For 2018, Lexus added Lexus Safety System+ as standard, bringing features such as a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane-departure alert, lane-keep assist systems, radar cruise control, and intelligent high-beam headlamps.
The main tradeoffs are that the NX is not as rewarding to drive as some rivals and that many desirable features were bundled into option packages when new. It can also feel tight for larger occupants, according to owner feedback. Even so, the 2020 Lexus NX remains attractive for buyers who want a compact luxury SUV with a premium cabin, strong fuel economy in hybrid form, and an excellent reputation for dependability.

Great vehicle! I love it! I would just like if it were a little bigger as my so is 6’1 and only 17… but that’s the only downside. It had many safety features, car play, great MPG. I’m very happy with it!

Is the 2020 Lexus NX a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Lexus NX earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers commonly praise the luxury features, interior quality, technology, and Apple CarPlay support, and many also like the value it offers in a small SUV. It fits well if you want a compact luxury SUV with a premium cabin and everyday usability. With 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Lexus NX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback also emphasizes reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with owners describing it as a vehicle they can count on over the long term. That kind of praise matters if you want a used luxury SUV that should feel reassuring to own. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about finding one that has been maintained well and avoided prior damage.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Lexus NX?
At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was minor or structural. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can check for wear, repairs, and signs of inconsistent maintenance. Because this model is often chosen for its premium cabin and technology, focus closely on interior condition, electronics, and overall upkeep.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Lexus NX?
This looks like a moderate market, so you can buy now if the right listing appears, but you should still compare carefully.
- Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,096 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.70% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,590, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Lexus NX's resale value?
The current average of $26,490 sits slightly below last year's $26,949.
That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy with less pressure today. For a future seller, the current trend implies resale value may stay competitive, but not especially strong unless the vehicle is in excellent condition and priced well. Well-kept examples should still attract interest because the NX has broad appeal among shoppers who want a premium compact SUV.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Lexus NX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.70% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $28,467, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $26,490 average.
- It adds a fresher pre-redesign feel with the same stylish, high-quality cabin and agile driving character.
The bottom line: The 2020 is the better primary choice if you want stronger value and more room to negotiate. If you can stretch for a newer example and want the next model year’s updated feel, the 2021 is the secondary path to consider.
