What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Kia Optima?

At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially for bodywork, alignment, and signs of uneven wear that could point to past repairs. Focus on overall condition and documentation, since the best used Optimas will be the ones that combine strong equipment with clean history and consistent upkeep.

What is the 2020 Kia Optima's resale value?

The current average of $12,702 sits slightly below last year's $14,337.

That price movement suggests the Optima has become more affordable in the used market, which can help you buy at a lower entry point today. For a future seller, the recent decline means resale value may be more sensitive to mileage, condition, and equipment level. Well-kept examples should still draw interest because the model’s value proposition remains a core part of its appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Kia Optima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $11,657, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $12,702 average.
• It offers a strong value proposition with a roomy interior and sophisticated safety technologies.

The bottom line: If you want the newer safety updates and a still-reasonable used price, the 2020 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2019 is the smarter budget-focused alternative.
