Why it stands out
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler stands out first and foremost as an American 4x4 icon with military roots and millions of miles of trails traversed. Its appeal is rooted in that rugged identity, and it remains especially attractive to buyers who want a vehicle with genuine off-road capability and a wide range of powertrain options. For 2020, Jeep also adds a new diesel engine in the Wrangler Unlimited, giving it newfound grunt and broadening the model’s mechanical appeal.
That strength comes with an important tradeoff: poor fuel economy. The diesel engine is described as a wash when it comes to your wallet, so the added torque does not necessarily solve the Wrangler’s efficiency drawback. Even so, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler remains distinctive because it combines unmistakable brand recognition and trail-ready character with more than one way to configure its powertrain.

This jeep is absolutely beautiful I don’t think I would’ve found something as spot on to what vehicle I was looking for in another location. The soft top to the jeep makes it way easier to ride with the top opened up compared to the hard top jeeps which I love. The value of it was absolutely worth it too compared to other jeeps I’ve seen with the same amount of mileage you can’t really find something to beat its value. Overall I will definitely be referring friends and family to search for their cars here when they’re in the market for one.

This jeep is beautiful. I loved everything about it. The only reason I haven’t bought it is the engine size. I’m needing a 6 cylinder.

How much does the 2020 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $25,690 |
| Year-Round Low | $25,693.16 |
| Year-Round High | $29,405.01 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $29,410 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.65% |
Prices have softened 12.65% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 7,879 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability.
If you find a listing below $25,693.16, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Generally — you’re looking at a 4.38/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal with clear tradeoffs.
The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the rugged design, off-road capability, and comfort touches like heated seats. The review summary also points to the Wrangler’s distinctive character and modern features, while noting that some buyers wish it had more convenience tech.
On the downside, the expert review calls out poor fuel economy and a rougher, truck-like driving experience. That matters most if you want a daily driver that feels calm and efficient rather than one built around trail use.
The overview makes the use case clear: this is a vehicle for you if you want genuine off-road ability, strong brand identity, and multiple powertrain choices. With 32.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to ruggedness and off-road capability, and it also suggests that many drivers feel good about the Wrangler’s overall ownership experience. The expert review reinforces that this is a vehicle built for a specific purpose, with the diesel adding strong low-speed torque and the Wrangler’s mechanical setup aimed at trail use.
The diesel engine’s extra torque helps with climbing and crawling, and the review notes that it improves highway passing and low-speed control. The cost-effectiveness discussion also says the diesel’s economics are close to a draw, which suggests you should think carefully about how you’ll use it before buying.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a Wrangler’s rugged mission can come with higher ownership demands if it has been driven hard off-road or maintained inconsistently.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Jeep Wrangler?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because off-road use and prior damage can matter more on a Wrangler than on a typical SUV. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on wear from trail use, signs of hard use, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim you want. Pay close attention to condition, because the cheapest listing is not always the best value if it has been abused.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport is very bare-bones, with a 5-inch touchscreen, manual windows and locks, and little else. The Sport S adds power windows and locks, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry, while the Sahara brings a more upscale look with body-color fender flares, 18-inch alloy wheels, and bigger brakes. The Rubicon is the most trail-focused choice, with a lifted off-road suspension and mud-terrain tires.
- Powertrain: You can choose a 3.6-liter V6, a turbocharged 4-cylinder, or the new 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. The diesel stands out for its 442 lb-ft of torque and stronger low-speed and highway performance, while the 4-cylinder is the most efficient gas option.
- Safety package: The base safety package adds rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection. The Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control and full-speed forward-collision warning. Some helpful features are still optional rather than standard, so trim and package content matter.
- Infotainment: The Sport and Sport S use a 5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and USB. The Rubicon and Sahara come standard with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and the available 8.4-inch system adds navigation, HD Radio, real-time traffic and weather updates, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The diesel returns 22 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined. The most efficient gas-powered version returns 21 mpg city, 22 highway, and 21 combined.
Which 2020 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the most stripped-down version, with a 5-inch touchscreen, eight speakers, manual windows and locks, and a USB port. It makes sense only if you want the lowest entry point and are comfortable adding features later.
- Sport S: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds power windows and locks, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry. It also opens the door to the Technology Package and Cold Weather Group, which make the Wrangler much easier to live with.
- Sahara: This is the more upscale choice, with body-color fender flares, 18-inch alloy wheels, bigger brakes, and standard content from the Technology Package. It suits you if you want a more polished daily-driver feel.
- Rubicon: This is the trail-first trim, with a lifted off-road suspension, mud-terrain tires, and more mechanical upgrades. Choose it if off-road capability matters more than comfort or efficiency.
The safety packages are worth considering on lower trims, especially because some helpful driver-assistance features are not standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Jeep Wrangler?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep bargains everywhere.
- Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 7,879 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.65% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,693.16, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $25,690 sits slightly below last year's $29,410.
That price movement suggests the Wrangler has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and later resell into a market that still values its identity and capability. Because demand is tied to its off-road reputation and distinctive character, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than more ordinary SUVs.
If you choose a trim with desirable equipment and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you improve your odds of holding value better over time. Mileage, maintenance history, and visible wear will matter a lot when it comes time to sell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Jeep Wrangler safe?
It earns Good ratings from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes airbags, electronic roll mitigation, and a backup camera. The base safety package adds rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection, while the Advanced Safety Group adds adaptive cruise control and full-speed forward-collision warning. Automatic high beams are also mentioned on the test model.
The main caveat is that several helpful driver-assistance features are packaged rather than standard, so you should check the exact build carefully before buying.
Should I buy a 2020 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.65% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 adds a new diesel engine in the Wrangler Unlimited, broadening powertrain choice and improving low-speed torque.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $28,242, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $25,690 average.
- It adds a plug-in hybrid option and a Hemi V8 in the four-door Wrangler Unlimited.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger buy because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for a broader powertrain lineup, the 2021 is the better path for you.
