How much does the 2020 Jeep Compass cost?

Prices have softened 11.31% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,754 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Jeep Compass a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Jeep Compass earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 6.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its affordability of features, handling in urban settings, and overall satisfaction with its styling and equipment. The Compass also stands out for buyers who want a small crossover SUV with real off-road capability and the Jeep image that comes with it.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, and value for money is poor. The overview also points to a comfortable cabin and a spacious feel, which helps if you want everyday usability alongside the Jeep character.

Good and great deals account for 32.9% of listings, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Jeep Compass reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to generally satisfied buyers who appreciate the model’s features, performance, and styling, along with its affordability of features and urban-friendly handling. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it to deliver the Jeep experience many shoppers want.

The expert evaluation also describes it as a big improvement over the original Compass, which supports the idea that this generation is more dependable as a used buy than its reputation might imply. If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is that some of the appealing equipment and capability can come with compromises in refinement and value.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Jeep Compass?

At 65.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, glass, and alignment clues that can reveal past damage. It also makes sense to focus on cabin condition and the operation of the electronics, since the Compass can be loaded with features that matter in daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Compass comes in Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk trims, and the feature spread is meaningful. Base-trim buyers should pay close attention to what is missing, since Jeep makes many desirable items optional rather than standard.
• Powertrain: The Compass uses a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. The expert review describes it as loud, slow, and thirsty, with sluggish acceleration and nearly non-existent passing power.
• Safety package: Jeep’s driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technology is available through the Safety and Security Group and the Advanced Safety Group, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic warning. These systems are optional, even on the base Sport trim.
• Infotainment: Available Uconnect brings an 8.4-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and 4G LTE WiFi connectivity. It also supports SiriusXM Guardian connected services, which adds emergency calling, vehicle finder, and remote engine starting.
• Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 23.1 mpg, and the expert review says that fell short of the EPA combined rating of 25 mpg.

Which 2020 Jeep Compass trim should I buy?

The 2020 Jeep Compass is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and plan to add only the features you truly need. It is also the trim where Jeep extends the availability of driver-assistance technology, so safety shoppers should pay close attention to option packages here.
• Latitude: This is the trim to consider if you want a more balanced everyday Compass without jumping too far up the price ladder. It should give you a better mix of comfort and equipment than the Sport while staying closer to the model’s value sweet spot.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it is the one used for the well-equipped test vehicle, with premium touches, strong tech, and a more upscale feel. If you want the Compass to feel more complete without going all the way to the most specialized version, this is the one to target.
• Trailhawk: This is the trim for you if off-road capability is the reason you’re shopping the Compass in the first place. The expert review highlights its added ground clearance, Active Drive Low AWD system, 20:1 crawl ratio, and exclusive Rock driving mode.

Jeep’s safety and driver-assistance technology is optional across the lineup, so check each listing carefully to confirm the equipment you want is actually installed.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Jeep Compass?

The market looks moderately favorable for selective buyers who are willing to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,754 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.31% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,819, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Jeep Compass's resale value?

The current average of $14,819 sits slightly below last year's $16,709.

That price movement suggests the Compass has softened in the used market, which can help you buy at a lower entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale upside may be limited unless your vehicle is especially clean, well equipped, and well documented.

The model’s affordability and Jeep branding can still support demand, especially for buyers who want capability and image over refinement. But if you plan to resell later, condition and equipment will matter a lot in protecting value.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Jeep Compass safe?

The Compass earned Good ratings in all IIHS crash tests except for headlight performance, and the NHTSA gives it a mix of three-star, four-star, and five-star ratings.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep’s driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic warning. Those features are optional through the Safety and Security Group and the Advanced Safety Group, even though Jeep extends their availability to the base Sport trim level.

The expert review also notes that adaptive cruise control can overreact in traffic and that lane-keeping assist can be more insistent than desired. That means safety equipment is a strength, but you should still test the systems carefully before you buy.

Should I buy a 2020 Jeep Compass or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.31% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model stands out for its blend of Jeep image, real off-road capability, and a more usable everyday cabin.

The bottom line: If you want a used Compass for its Jeep character and off-road ability, the 2020 model is a sensible target because pricing has eased and there are enough listings to shop carefully. If you care more about refinement, value, or mostly pavement driving, you should be especially selective and may want to compare it against other years or alternatives before committing.

How does the 2020 Jeep Compass compare to the 2020 Honda CR-V?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2020 Jeep Compass:

• Pros: Comfortable, Spacious, Off-road capability.
• Cons: Fairly pedestrian performance, Poor value for money.

2020 Honda CR-V:

• Pros: Great handling, Fuel-efficient.
• Cons: Outdated technology, Interior materials feel cheap.

Our experts score the 2020 Jeep Compass 6.3/10 and the 2020 Honda CR-V 7.5/10. The Compass is the better pick if you care most about off-road capability and a comfortable, spacious feel. The CR-V is the stronger all-around choice if you want better handling and fuel efficiency.

The Compass gives you a lower average used price, but the CR-V brings stronger market demand and better efficiency. If your priorities are adventure and Jeep identity, the Compass makes sense; if you want the more polished daily driver, the CR-V is the safer bet.
