Overview
Despite looking the same, the subcompact Hyundai Accent makes big moves toward improved efficiency for 2020.
Last year’s 1.6-liter engine was completely redesigned. It now makes 120 horsepower and 113 pound-feet of torque. While the 6-speed manual transmission still comes standard, the optional 6-speed automatic transmission has been swapped for a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). These changes boost the Accent’s fuel economy to 33 mpg city, 41 highway, and 36 combined. As before, all Accents are front-wheel drive (FWD).
Hyundai offers the Accent in SE, SEL, and Limited trims. The base SE trim includes a 5-inch touchscreen, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, and Bluetooth connectivity. The SEL trim comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and dual USB charging ports. Finally, the Limited trim gets 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, Hyundai's Blue Link telematics, keyless access, and keyless start.
The Accent comes standard with airbags and a reversing camera. Nicer trims include a blind-spot mirror, forward-collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. The Hyundai Accent earned a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2019.
The Hyundai Accent remains a value-focused subcompact sedan, albeit one that’s quite a bit more efficient than it was last year. It competes with other subcompact sedans like the Nissan Versa and Kia Rio.

How much does the 2020 Hyundai Accent cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,931 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,752 |
| Year-Round High | $11,975 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,635 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.05% |
Prices have softened 6.05% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 245 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2020 Hyundai Accent a good car?
With no expert test-drive score provided here, the best way to judge this model year is by the market signals: the average used price is $10,931, and the listing pool includes 33.9% good or great deals. That combination points to a market where you can still find value if you shop carefully and compare condition closely.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Accent?
At 53.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report on any candidate you’re serious about and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s wear matches its mileage and asking price.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Accent?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, but the best listings still deserve quick attention.
- Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 245 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.05% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 53.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,752, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Hyundai Accent's resale value?
The current average of $10,931 sits slightly below last year's $11,635.
That softer pricing suggests the model has become more affordable for buyers, but it also means you may not see strong short-term appreciation if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a competitive price and keep the car in clean condition, you can help protect your future resale position. For a seller, the current market favors realistic pricing over waiting for a rebound.
Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Accent or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 53.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.05% compared with last year.
The bottom line: The 2020 is a sensible choice if you want a lower average price and enough inventory to compare options. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep an eye on the lowest-priced listings and be ready to move quickly when you find one with clean history and strong condition.
