How much does the 2020 Honda Pilot cost?

Prices have softened 8.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,530 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used examples to compare.

Is the 2020 Honda Pilot a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 4.7/5, and the expert rating is 8.00/10. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, responsive handling, comfort, performance, and fuel efficiency. That lines up well with the Pilot’s family-friendly use case: you get a roomy three-row SUV with real cargo space and an adult-friendly third row, so it works well when you need everyday practicality rather than occasional extra seating.

The trade-offs are clear, though: the technology is unintuitive, and the interior materials feel cheap. Even so, the market still shows 35.8% good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Honda Pilot reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV that many people are happy to live with over time, especially because of its comfort, performance, and fuel efficiency. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Pilot is built for easy commutes and relaxing road trips, with a refined ride and stout real-world acceleration.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether you can live with the Pilot’s quirks and condition history over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Pilot?

At 70.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior repair quality, and whether the cabin and controls still feel consistent with the mileage and asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the most basic version, while the EX adds remote start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, LED fog lights, Smart Entry, tri-zone climate control, a 10-way power driver’s seat, and heated front seats. The EX-L adds leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a power moonroof, second-row sunshades, and a 4-way power front passenger seat. Touring, Elite, and Black Edition models add more luxury and convenience features, with the Black Edition carrying the same general content as the Elite plus unique styling.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, with FWD or available AWD. LX, EX, and EX-L use a 6-speed automatic, while Touring, Elite, and Black Edition models get a 9-speed automatic that brings more refined acceleration and should help fuel economy.
• Safety package: HondaSensing is standard and includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Front and side-impact airbags, child-seat anchors, Vehicle Stability Assist, and traction control are also standard, while parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert are optional.
• Infotainment: The LX gets a 5-inch color LCD screen, Bluetooth, USB, and a 215-watt, 7-speaker stereo with a subwoofer. All other trims use an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and higher trims add HD Radio, SiriusXM, Cabin Control Remote Capability, navigation, rear-seat entertainment, a wall-style power outlet, a premium audio system, mobile hotspot capability, and wireless charging on the Elite and Black Edition.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient setup is the FWD 9-speed configuration at 20 mpg city, 27 highway, 23 combined. AWD with the 9-speed returns 19 mpg city, 27 highway, 22 combined. The 6-speed FWD setup returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined, while the 6-speed AWD setup returns 18 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined.

Which 2020 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Pilot is offered in 6 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Elite, and Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Pilot’s core space and safety without the extra convenience and tech upgrades. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live with the base infotainment setup.
• EX: This is the best-value trim. It adds remote start, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, LED fog lights, Smart Entry, tri-zone climate control, a power driver’s seat, and heated front seats, making it the sweet spot for most shoppers.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale daily driver. Leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a moonroof, and second-row sunshades make it a stronger family-hauler.
• Touring: This trim steps up with 20-inch wheels, roof rails, ambient lighting, an upgraded stereo, and courtesy approach lights, plus the 9-speed automatic and stronger efficiency on the more efficient configuration.
• Elite: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with power-folding mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, and heated and ventilated front seats.
• Black Edition: Pick this if you want the Elite’s equipment with unique blacked-out styling and the top-end presentation.

HondaSensing is standard across the lineup, so you get the core safety suite no matter which trim you choose.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Pilot?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,530 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,359, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Pilot's resale value?

The current average of $22,359 sits slightly below last year's $24,318.

That decline suggests the Pilot has become more affordable for used buyers, which can also mean future sellers may face a softer pricing environment than they would have a year ago. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect your resale position when it’s time to sell.

The Pilot’s broad appeal still helps support demand, especially because it offers family-friendly space, a comfortable ride, and strong owner satisfaction. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Pilot safe?

The Honda Pilot earns a five-star overall crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a Good rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

HondaSensing is standard, and it includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Standard safety equipment also includes front and side-impact airbags, child-seat anchors, Vehicle Stability Assist, and traction control.

Parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert are optional, so you’ll want to confirm whether a used example has those extras if they matter to you.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a roomy three-row cabin, strong standard safety, and a powerful V6.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $25,165, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,359 average.
• It adds a more modern-feeling overall package with simple but useful technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and the feature set is still strong. If you’re willing to pay more for the newer model year, the 2021 is the cleaner alternative for shoppers who want a slightly more up-to-date ownership experience.
