Is the 2020 Honda Passport a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Honda Passport earns 4.45/5 from owners and 8.83/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Drivers repeatedly praise its comfort, spaciousness, smooth ride, and useful cargo-hauling ability. The Passport also gets credit for its strong V6 engine and practical everyday utility. On the downside, some owners mention electrical issues and an infotainment system that feels outdated.

That lines up with the Passport’s role as a two-row crossover that aims for an upmarket feel while still being comfortable on the road and capable on the trail. If you want something practical with a more adventurous character, it fits that brief well. Good and great deals account for 34.7% of listings, so there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Honda Passport reliable?

The expert evaluation also describes the Passport as comfortable on the road and capable on the trail, with a tried-and-true V6 and smooth-shifting automatic transmission. Honda’s safety and driver-assist package is standard, which adds to the sense that the vehicle is built to be easy to live with.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that some owners have reported electrical concerns, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Passport?

At 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, alignment, tires, and any signs of electrical or infotainment issues. Because this model is valued for comfort and utility, you’ll also want to make sure the cabin, cargo area, and major convenience features are all working as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite trims differ in equipment, with the base Sport getting a smaller 5.0-inch display while the higher trims move to an 8.0-inch touchscreen and more upscale cabin features. Lower trims also miss some of the richer comfort and convenience equipment found higher up the range.
• Powertrain: Every Passport uses a 3.5-liter V6 with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the lower trims, while all-wheel drive is available, and the setup is tuned for smooth everyday driving with respectable capability.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes Collision Mitigation Braking System with forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a rearview camera with birds-eye view. Higher trims add dynamic gridlines for the rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic detection.
• Infotainment: The base Sport gets a 5.0-inch display monitor, while the EX-L, Touring, and Elite use an 8.0-inch Display Audio touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims can also add a wireless phone charger and Wi-Fi hot spot.
• Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 20 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined, while all-wheel-drive versions return 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Honda Passport trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda Passport is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Passport’s core rugged style, standard Honda Sensing safety tech, and the smaller 5.0-inch display. It makes sense if you want the Passport’s basics at the lowest price, but it’s the most stripped-down version.
• EX-L: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger 8.0-inch touchscreen, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
• Touring: This trim is the right step up if you want more convenience and tech, and it can also be paired with additional safety and navigation equipment. It suits you if you want a more fully equipped Passport without going all the way to Elite.
• Elite: This is the most luxurious version, with features like perforated heated and ventilated front seats, a leather-trimmed heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, a 10-way power driver’s seat with memory, and a moonroof. It’s the pick if you want the most comfort and equipment.

Higher trims can add dynamic gridlines for the rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic detection.

• Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 865 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,206, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda Passport's resale value?

The current average of $22,206 sits slightly below last year's $23,740.

That softer pricing suggests the Passport has become a more buyer-friendly used SUV than it was a year ago. For you as a future seller, that means the market is currently valuing this model a bit more conservatively, so condition and equipment will matter a lot when it’s time to resell. Well-kept examples with desirable features should still hold appeal because the Passport’s practical layout and strong owner satisfaction remain part of its draw.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda Passport safe?

The 2020 Passport achieved good scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash test and evaluation, and it was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes Collision Mitigation Braking System with forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a rearview camera with birds-eye view. Higher trims add dynamic gridlines for the rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic detection.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda Passport or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the Passport’s rugged two-row formula, with comfort, trail capability, and thoughtful interior functionality.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $20,405, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $22,206 average.
• It emphasizes space, all-wheel drive, and high ground clearance.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,381, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,206 average.
• It carries over largely unchanged while adding some additional features.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and available inventory, the 2020 is the strongest default choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2019 is worth a look; if you want a newer example and don’t mind paying more, the 2021 is the next step up.
