How much does the 2020 Honda CR-V cost?

Prices have softened 5.19% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,492 listings available, which suggests you should have a solid range of choices.

Is the 2020 Honda CR-V a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Honda CR-V earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, excellent features, and strong performance. They also highlight the advanced technology and safety features offered at a fair price. Some shoppers do wish for more options such as parking sensors and built-in navigation, and a few owners mention pricing concerns.

That lines up with the broader use case: you’re looking at a practical compact SUV that’s easy to live with, with handling and fuel economy as core strengths. The trade-off is that it is not the most exciting choice, and its technology and interior materials can feel dated or cheap compared with the rest of the package.

36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2020 Honda CR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people feel good about keeping for the long haul, with praise centered on its dependable everyday usefulness, spaciousness, and strong feature set. The expert review also describes the CR-V as a comfortable and capable crossover package that has had its wrinkles smoothed out over time, which supports the idea that it’s a settled, confidence-inspiring choice.

Honda’s new engine for this year also helps make the CR-V a stronger value proposition, which can matter for ownership satisfaction over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by age or heavy use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda CR-V?

At 68.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, tires, brakes, and interior condition. Because the CR-V is a high-volume family SUV, condition can vary a lot from one example to the next, so service records and signs of consistent maintenance matter. If you’re comparing multiple listings, focus on the ones that combine clean history with the equipment you actually want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the base front-wheel-drive model, while higher trims add a larger screen, smartphone integration, blind-spot monitoring, heated seats, a moonroof, leather upholstery, a power tailgate, and other comfort upgrades. The EX is the best-value choice if you want the biggest jump in everyday usability without going all the way to the top.
• Powertrain: The 2020 CR-V uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT. It is tuned for smooth, efficient everyday driving rather than excitement.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are limited to EX trims and above.
• Infotainment: The LX gets a 5-inch screen, while higher trims use a 7-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available only with the larger screen, and the Touring adds Honda navigation plus wireless phone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 30 miles per gallon combined, while all-wheel-drive models are rated at 29.

Which 2020 Honda CR-V trim should I buy?

The 2020 Honda CR-V is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the least expensive way into the CR-V, but it comes with the smallest infotainment screen and the fewest convenience features. It makes sense only if you’re focused on price above all else.
• EX: This is the best-value trim because it adds the larger touchscreen, smartphone integration, blind-spot monitoring, heated seats, a moonroof, keyless entry, and a better audio system. For most used buyers, this is the sweet spot.
• EX-L: This trim is worth considering if you want leather upholstery, a power passenger seat, a power tailgate, and a built-in garage door opener. It’s a comfort-focused upgrade rather than a must-have.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with navigation, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, and LED headlights. It’s the right pick if you want the top trim, but the added cost is harder to justify than the EX or EX-L.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are limited to EX trims and above.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda CR-V?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,492 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.19% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,316, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Honda CR-V's resale value?

The current average of $22,718 sits slightly below last year's $23,962.

That decline suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. A softer price environment usually means future resale gains may be more limited unless the vehicle is especially clean, well equipped, and well maintained. Even so, the CR-V’s broad appeal helps support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Honda CR-V safe?

The 2020 Honda CR-V earned five stars from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in the frontal crash test and side crash test, and a four-star rating in the rollover test. It also earned a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS, with caveats for trims below Touring.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic monitoring are standard only on EX trims and above.

The main safety caveat is the headlight performance on trims below Touring, where the halogen units scored only Marginal. The Touring’s LED headlights address that weakness and improve nighttime visibility.

Should I buy a 2020 Honda CR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year adds engine and safety upgrades that improve fuel economy and value.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $20,609, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $22,718 average.
• It is refined, roomy, and historically reliable.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,144, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,718 average.
• It emphasizes practicality, cargo space, and standard advanced safety features.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the right pick if you want the updated engine, strong safety equipment, and a well-rounded used compact SUV at a softer price than last year. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2019 is the cheaper alternative; if you want to spend more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the next step up.
