CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Genesis G70
overall

Summary
With 241 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,853.00, 29.5% of 2020 Genesis G70s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Genesis G70 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
64.7% of 2020 Genesis G70 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Genesis G70 stands out as a compact luxury sport sedan that blends style, speed, and a sense of individuality. It is described as an unknown star in the segment, and its appeal comes partly from the fact that it does not blend into the crowd. The car’s quilted stitching and valet service add to the upscale feel, while its stylish design and strong performance help it make a memorable impression.
It also has a reputation for being a good value, with the source calling out excellent value for money and a fantastic warranty. That combination makes the 2020 Genesis G70 especially appealing to buyers who want something sporty and premium without chasing the most obvious badge. The main drawback noted in the test-drive data is outdated technology, and owner feedback also points to limited backseat leg room and trunk space, so it is not the most practical choice in its class.

The G70 2.0T is a much better sports sedan than my previous car the2016 IS200t. Interior is very premium with way more standard features than the IS. Seats are very comfortable and there is very little turbo lag in comparison to the Lexus. Other than Reliability the G70 2.0T is a much better vehicle. It is very fun to drive and the rarity of the car is just the icing on the cake. It definitely combines the best of the Germans and Japanese automakers. The Genesis G70 is what the Lexus IS should have been.

Outstanding. In city traffic it has proximity visibility beyond that of similar autos. The manual transmission is smooth, acceleration reliably quick and the transmission gates positive. The clutch friction point is visible on the tach but not a drag on the torque curve.

The expert test-drive notes also emphasize that the G70 feels like a premium, well-oiled machine that will reward its driver for years to come.
Genesis also backs the car with a five-year/60,000-mile warranty, a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and three years/36,000 miles of included maintenance with pickup/dropoff service and loaners. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that age-related wear may be more noticeable if the car has seen hard use or skipped maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Genesis G70?
At 62.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been driven hard or modified. Focus on overall condition, because the G70’s appeal depends heavily on how well the interior, electronics, and chassis have been maintained.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Advanced trim is the most stripped-down version, while Elite adds the 15-speaker Lexicon stereo, parking sensors, heated front seats, and a power steering column. Prestige adds a heated steering wheel and rain-sensing wipers, and Sport brings a power closing trunk lid.
- Powertrain: The base 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder makes 252 hp and 260 lb-ft, while the optional 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 delivers 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. The V6 is the stronger choice if you want the car’s full sport-sedan character.
- Safety package: The car includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping function, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, auto high beams, a driver attention monitor, and a driver’s knee airbag. Navigation is optional and adds fast voice recognition, live traffic data, and a head-up display.
- Infotainment: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and the 8-inch touchscreen is the main weak point because it feels small and dated. The source does not describe wireless smartphone integration or OTA capability.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0T AWD is rated at 20/27/23 mpg, and the 2.0T RWD automatic gets 22/30/25 mpg. The V6 setup is described as fuel-thirsty, with less than 21 mpg averaged in testing.
Which 2020 Genesis G70 trim should I buy?
The 2020 Genesis G70 is offered in 4 trim levels: Advanced, Elite, Prestige, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Advanced: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the G70’s core style and driving feel at the lowest starting price. You give up some of the richer cabin and convenience upgrades found higher up the range.
- Elite: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 15-speaker Lexicon stereo, parking sensors, heated front seats, and a power steering column. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
- Prestige: Choose this if you want more comfort-focused upgrades, including a heated steering wheel and rain-sensing wipers. It suits you if you care more about daily livability than chasing the sportiest setup.
- Sport: This is the trim to buy if you want the most aggressive feel and the most complete equipment list, including the power closing trunk lid. It also pairs well with the stronger performance-oriented character described in the test-drive notes.
The safety package is broadly standard across the lineup, so even lower trims get a strong baseline of driver assistance.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Genesis G70?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 245 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.57% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,622.08, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Genesis G70's resale value?
The current average of $20,939 sits slightly below last year's $23,156.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current pricing trend means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim. Well-equipped examples with the stronger engine and clean history should hold buyer interest better than neglected or heavily used cars.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Genesis G70 safe?
It is a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The G70 comes with a broad standard safety suite that includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping function, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, auto high beams, and a driver attention monitor. A driver’s knee airbag is also included, and the lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control systems can work together as a semi-automated setup on marked highways.
One caveat is that the car has not been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), so you do not get that additional benchmark here. Navigation is optional and adds a head-up display, but the core safety story is already strong on standard equipment.
Should I buy a 2020 Genesis G70 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 26.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.57% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines standout style, strong performance, and a fantastic warranty.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $19,814, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $20,939 average.
- It is the first all-new Genesis G70 and feels impressively polished for a debut model.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $23,142, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,939 average.
- It adds minor updates that refresh trims and features without changing the core formula.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2020 if you want the best mix of price, style, and performance. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2019 is the smarter value play, while the 2021 makes sense only if you want the newer-year updates and are willing to pay more.
