What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford F-150?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a truck like this may have been used for towing, hauling, or daily work. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, signs of heavy use, and whether the features you want are actually present. Condition matters a lot here, especially if you are shopping lower trims or higher-mileage examples.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is the work-truck starting point with steel wheels, air conditioning, manual locks, a small driver information display, and standard forward automatic emergency braking. The XLT adds more everyday convenience with 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, chrome bumpers and grille, cruise control, SYNC 3, and a WiFi hotspot. The Lariat is the best-value step up if you want a more comfortable cabin, since it adds push-button start, leather-trimmed seats, heated power-folding mirrors, dual-zone climate control, and power heated and cooled front seats. Higher trims add more luxury, with the King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited bringing premium materials and comfort features, while the Raptor is the specialized off-road model.
• Powertrain: The lineup starts with a 3.3-liter V6, then moves to a 2.7-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V6, a 5.0-liter V8, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6. The stronger engines are the better fit if you plan to tow or haul regularly, while the base V6 is more suited to everyday driving.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 includes automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Some of these features are available or standard only on higher trims, so check carefully before you buy.
• Infotainment: The XLT’s SYNC 3 system uses an 8-inch touchscreen and adds Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, enhanced voice recognition, pinch-to-zoom map functionality, and smart-charging USB ports. FordPass with a 4G WiFi modem is also available on XLT-and-up trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbodiesel with rear-wheel drive returns 21 mpg city, 29 highway, 24 combined. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined. The V8 returns 17 mpg city, 23 highway, 19 combined. The Raptor returns 15 mpg city, 18 highway, 16 combined.

Which 2020 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most basic work-truck choice, so it makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and can live without many comfort features. It still includes standard forward automatic emergency braking, which is a useful safety baseline.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds SYNC 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a WiFi hotspot, and more exterior polish without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Lariat: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale daily driver. It adds leather-trimmed seats, heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone climate control, and push-button start, making it a strong choice for comfort-focused buyers.
• King Ranch: This trim is for you if you want a distinctive Western-themed cabin with saddle-leather upholstery, plus premium audio and heated rear seats.
• Platinum: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with premium comfort touches like massaging front seats, ambient lighting, and added convenience features.
• Raptor: This is the specialized off-road model, with a wider body, lifted suspension, Fox Racing Shox, skid plates, and terrain-focused hardware.
• Limited: This is the top-end comfort pick, with premium leather upholstery, a dual-panel moonroof, and upscale exterior details.

Some driver-assistance features are standard on the XL, while Ford Co-Pilot360 features are available or standard on higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford F-150?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,586 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.35% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,180, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $28,180 sits slightly below last year's $30,415.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, trim, and equipment rather than just model-year desirability. Well-kept trucks with the right powertrain and popular features should hold up better than stripped or heavily used examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.72/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford F-150 safe?

The 2020 Ford F-150 SuperCrew trucks received five-star ratings from NHTSA, while the SuperCab and regular cab earned four-star ratings.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford makes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking standard, including on the XL trim. Ford Co-Pilot360 adds automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. A reverse sensing system is available on the base XL, and Pro Trailer Backup Assist is also available for easier towing.

The safety picture is strongest in SuperCrew form, so you should pay close attention to cab style if crash-test performance matters to you.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.72/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It balances comfort, capability, and a broad engine lineup while keeping the cabin modern and usable.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $26,097, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $28,180 average.
• It stays current with modest updates and still feels relevant.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $32,601, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,180 average.
• It adds more tech, a revamped interior, and an available hybrid powertrain.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, selection, and proven capability, the 2020 is the sensible default. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can save you money while keeping much of the same core appeal. If you want newer tech and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the upgrade path to consider.
