Is the 2020 Ford F-150 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Ford F-150 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its power, smooth ride, and interior comfort, and they also value the engine performance and broad capability. The truck is framed as a strong fit if you want one vehicle that can serve as a commuter, road-trip vehicle, family shuttle, and worksite hauler.

The main trade-offs are that advanced safety features are not standard and the interior materials can feel cheap. Even so, the F-150’s mix of style, space, and capability keeps it appealing for buyers who want a pickup that does more than just tow and haul.

Owners describe it as powerfully dependable, smooth, and comfortable, with praise that points to a truck you can count on for daily use and heavier-duty tasks. The expert review also emphasizes that the cabin feels durable and built to take a beating.

The ownership picture looks reassuring for used buyers, though you should still focus on maintenance history and condition because wear can vary widely across work-truck and family-use examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford F-150?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. A pre-purchase inspection matters here because the F-150 was sold in many configurations, and condition can vary a lot depending on how it was used. Pay close attention to cabin wear, feature operation, and signs of hard use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL is the work-truck baseline with steel wheels, air conditioning, manual locks, and a 2.3-inch driver information display, while the XLT adds 17-inch painted aluminum wheels, chrome bumpers and grille, cruise control, SYNC 3, and a WiFi hotspot. The Lariat adds leather-trimmed seats, heated power-folding mirrors, dual-zone climate control, and power heated and cooled front seats, making it the best-value trim if you want comfort without jumping too far upmarket.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 3.3-liter V6 with 290 horsepower, a 2.7-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V6 with 325 hp, a 5.0-liter V8 with 395 hp, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with 375 hp, and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 with 250 hp. The base V6 is fine for daily driving, while the stronger engines are better suited to towing and hauling.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 can include automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Advanced safety features are not standard across the lineup, so check carefully for the equipment you want.
• Infotainment: XL models can be equipped with a basic touchscreen system, while XLT and higher trims get an 8-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, enhanced voice recognition, pinch-to-zoom map functionality, and smart-charging USB ports. FordPass with a 4G WiFi modem is also available on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbodiesel with rear-wheel drive returns 21 mpg city, 29 highway, and 24 combined, while the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 20 mpg city, 26 highway, and 22 combined. The V8 returns 17 mpg city, 23 highway, and 19 combined.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most affordable entry point and makes sense if you want a straightforward work truck with standard automatic emergency braking and the basics.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a WiFi hotspot, and more everyday convenience.
• Lariat: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale cabin, with leather-trimmed seats, heated and cooled front seats, and dual-zone climate control.
• King Ranch: Choose this if you want a distinctive Western-themed interior, a premium sound system, heated rear seats, and a remote release tailgate.
• Platinum: This trim leans into luxury with chrome accents, LED bed lighting, ambient lighting, and massaging front seats.
• Raptor: This is the off-road-focused choice, with a wider body, lifted suspension, Fox Racing Shox, and specialized terrain hardware.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 13,801 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.43% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $27,519, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $27,519 sits slightly below last year's $30,054.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can matter if you plan to sell later. A softer current price can also mean your future resale value may depend more heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum.

Well-kept trucks with desirable features should still hold attention, especially because the F-150 has broad appeal across work and family use. If you maintain yours carefully, you can help protect its value when it’s time to trade or sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford F-150 safe?

The 2020 Ford F-150 SuperCrew received top marks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and SuperCrew trucks earned five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, while SuperCab and regular cab models earned four-star ratings.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 can include automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Standard safety equipment also includes airbags, curve control, tire-pressure monitoring, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, rain-sensing headlights, an anti-theft system, and the SOS post-crash alert system.

One caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard across the lineup, so you should verify exactly what’s fitted on the truck you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.43% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for its broad mix of comfort, tech, and capability.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $25,748, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $27,519 average.
• It was kept current with modest updates and remains a familiar, proven choice.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $31,813, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,519 average.
• It adds more tech, a revamped interior, and an available hybrid powertrain.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest balance of price, capability, and market availability, the 2020 is the sensible default. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2019 is the value play; if you want newer tech and can spend more, the 2021 is the upgrade path.
