The 2020 Raptor gets almost everything right — performance, comfort, design, and capability. It’s not just a truck; it’s an experience. Every time I drive it, it reminds me why this model has such a loyal following. ⸻ What I Think of Its Features The twin-turbo 3.5 L EcoBoost engine delivers incredible power and torque, and the 10-speed transmission keeps it smooth whether you’re cruising the highway or tearing up dirt roads. The suspension is what truly sets it apart — it absorbs rough terrain like it’s nothing, but somehow still rides comfortably on pavement. Inside, it’s spacious, refined, and well-equipped. The technology and controls are intuitive, and even though it’s built for off-road performance, it doesn’t sacrifice daily comfort. It feels just as confident on a long trip as it does on a back trail. ⸻ Is It a Good Value? Yes — for the right driver. You’re paying for both capability and character. If you’ll actually use what it was built for — adventure, off-road travel, or simply having the most capable full-size truck on the road — then it’s worth every dollar. Of course, if you’re buying it just for city commuting, the value depends on how much you want the performance and presence. Fuel economy and tire wear are part of the trade-off, but the Raptor delivers something few trucks can: it makes driving fun again. ⸻ What It’s Missing No vehicle is perfect. The Raptor’s towing capacity isn’t as high as some other F-150 models, and it’s definitely a large truck to maneuver in tight parking lots. It also drinks more fuel than your average pickup, and parts like the suspension or tires cost more to replace. But for me, those drawbacks are minor compared to what it offers in power, confidence, and enjoyment. ⸻ What I’d Compare It To If you want to compare, the Ram 1500 TRX is the closest rival — louder, heavier, and a bit wilder. The Raptor, though, strikes a better balance between power and everyday drivability. I’d also compare it to the Chevy Silverado Trail Boss or GMC AT4 for someone who wants off-road ability without going full performance truck. ⸻ Overall The 2020 Raptor is one of those rare trucks that feels alive. It’s strong, capable, and surprisingly refined. Whether you’re driving across the country or exploring back roads, it’s a truck that makes you want to keep going. That’s why I gave it a perfect 5-star rating.

The picture is deceiving. It’s actually missing driver side running board. And the inside was very dirty. Back head rest was also missing.

Is the 2020 Ford F-150 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Ford F-150 earns a 4.72/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating.
The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Form and function.
Owners consistently praise its power, smooth ride, and interior comfort, and many also like the engine lineup, especially the 3.5L EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 options. The truck also gets credit for being spacious and practical, which fits its role as a daily driver that can still handle work duties. At the same time, some owners point to missing convenience features such as extra USB ports and power seats, so you may want to pay close attention to equipment levels if comfort tech matters to you.
The F-150’s use case is broad: it is built to serve as a commuter, family hauler, and tow vehicle without giving up truck capability. That versatility is a big part of its appeal, especially if you want one vehicle to cover both weekday and weekend needs.
The market also looks healthy, with 30.6% of listings classified as good or great deals.
Is the 2020 Ford F-150 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.72/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe the truck as dependable, with praise centered on its power, smooth ride, and overall comfort. The user feedback also points to a truck that feels well suited to long-term use, especially if you value a capable powertrain and a cabin that works well day to day. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the F-150’s durable, accommodating interior and its ability to handle both commuting and heavy-duty tasks.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the truck was maintained properly and not overworked, since capability can hide wear if you skip a thorough inspection.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford F-150?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. A pre-purchase inspection matters here because the F-150 was used in a wide range of roles, from commuting to towing and hauling. Focus on condition, equipment level, and signs of hard use, especially if you want a truck that will stay comfortable and dependable over time.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The XL is the work-focused starting point with steel wheels, manual locks, air conditioning, and a basic driver display. It also includes standard forward automatic emergency braking, while the XLT adds SYNC 3, cruise control, chrome exterior touches, and a WiFi hotspot.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.3-liter V6, a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, a 5.0-liter V8, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6. The base V6 is fine for daily driving, while the turbocharged engines, V8, and diesel are better suited to towing and hauling.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 includes automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Some of these features are not standard on lower trims.
- Infotainment: The XL starts with a basic AM/FM setup, while the XLT brings an 8-inch touchscreen with SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and voice recognition. FordPass with a 4G WiFi modem is also available on XLT and above.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbodiesel with rear-wheel drive returns 21 mpg city, 29 highway, 24 combined. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined. The V8 returns 17 mpg city, 23 highway, 19 combined, and the Raptor returns 15 mpg city, 18 highway, 16 combined.
Which 2020 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?
The 2020 Ford F-150 is offered in 7 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Raptor, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The XL is the bare-bones work truck, so you give up much of the comfort and convenience equipment found higher up the range. It does include standard forward automatic emergency braking, but the cabin is still very basic.
- Sweet-spot trim: The XLT is the best value pick because it adds SYNC 3, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, cruise control, chrome exterior details, and a WiFi hotspot without jumping into luxury pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the most upscale choice, with premium leather upholstery, a dual-panel moonroof, 22-inch polished aluminum wheels, and a more polished overall presentation.
- Off-road trim: The Raptor is the one to choose if off-road performance matters most, but its specialized hardware and lower fuel economy make it less appealing for typical daily driving.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is the key safety-package note to keep in mind, since several advanced driver-assistance features are bundled there rather than spread across every trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford F-150?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 9,529 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.02% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 79.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $28,529.80, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Ford F-150's resale value?
The current average of $29,219 sits slightly below last year's $30,763.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays cool. If you plan to sell later, the truck’s broad appeal and strong capability should help support demand, especially for well-equipped examples in good condition. Higher-mileage or heavily used trucks may face more pressure if buyers can choose from a large pool of listings.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.72/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Ford F-150 safe?
The SuperCrew version received top marks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and SuperCrew trucks earned five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, curve control, tire-pressure monitoring, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, rain-sensing headlights, an anti-theft system, and SOS post-crash alert. Ford also makes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking standard, including on the XL. Ford Co-Pilot360 adds automatic high beams, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control, though some of those features are not standard on lower trims.
A notable caveat is that the SuperCab and regular cab earned lower NHTSA results than the SuperCrew, so cab choice matters if safety is a priority.
Should I buy a 2020 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.02% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.72/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It offers a broad engine lineup, strong towing capability, and a comfortable, modern cabin.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $26,854, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $29,219 average.
- It offers strong versatility with a wide range of engines and a comfortable ride.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $33,759, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $29,219 average.
- It brings a major redesign with Sync 4 and wireless smartphone integration.
The bottom line: The 2020 is the better all-around pick if you want a strong mix of capability, comfort, and value in today’s market. If your budget is tighter, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the newer redesign and are willing to pay more.
