How much does the 2020 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 9.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,594 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2020 Ford Escape a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Ford Escape earns a 4.42/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its smooth driving experience, numerous features, and safety technology. The overview also points to a compact SUV that feels modern, well-equipped, and polished, while the expert notes highlight its stylish design and strong cabin quality.

The trade-offs are worth keeping in mind: the test-drive notes call out limited cargo space, and owners mention space concerns for taller passengers, a noisy engine under acceleration, and mixed feelings about the gearshift design.

With its multiple powertrain options and broad appeal, it fits you best if you want a compact SUV that feels more upscale and tech-forward than basic commuter transportation. 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 4.42/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels smooth, dependable, and easy to live with over time, with many drivers highlighting its safety technology and overall comfort. That kind of feedback usually matters most when you want a used SUV you can count on day after day.

The expert notes also support that impression by describing the Escape as a polished, high-tech small SUV with strong everyday usability. Ford’s standard advanced safety equipment adds to the sense that this is a well-rounded ownership proposition.

If you buy used, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn down by heavy daily use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Ford Escape?

At 74.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, tires, and interior wear. Because the model’s appeal depends heavily on its condition and equipment, it is smart to confirm that the features you want actually work as intended.

Pay extra attention to cargo practicality and cabin space if you plan to use the Escape as a family hauler or road-trip vehicle. A test drive should also include a close look at how the powertrain feels under acceleration and whether the controls suit your daily routine.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S comes with a 4.2-inch instrument-panel screen, a 4.2-inch center screen, manually adjustable front seats, and steel wheels, while the SE adds an 8-inch Sync 3 screen, automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat. The SE is the best-value choice because it adds the most useful everyday upgrades without pushing you into the pricier trims.
• Powertrain: The Escape offers four engine options, including a 180-horsepower 3-cylinder, a 250-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder, a 198-horsepower hybrid setup, and a plug-in hybrid variant. The conventional engines use an 8-speed automatic, while the hybrids use a CVT, and the lineup gives you more flexibility than many compact SUVs.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver drowsiness monitor. The base trim still gets the full suite, which is a major advantage if you want advanced safety without moving up the lineup.
• Infotainment: The SE’s 8-inch Sync 3 system adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the base trim uses a smaller 4.2-inch screen. The tech upgrade is one of the clearest reasons to step up from the entry model.
• Fuel efficiency: The non-Sport hybrid returns 44 mpg city, 37 highway, and 41 combined. The SE Sport returns 43/37/40, the 1.5-liter turbo returns 27/33/30 combined, the AWD version of that engine returns 26/31/26, and the 2.0-liter turbo with AWD returns 23/31/26.

Which 2020 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2020 Ford Escape is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SE, SE Sport, SEL, Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still includes FordPass Connect with WiFi, remote vehicle functions, and a full suite of driver-assistance features. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live with the smaller screens and simpler cabin.
• SE: This is the trim CarGurus recommends, and it adds the 8-inch Sync 3 screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat. It is the best-value trim because it delivers the biggest everyday usability upgrade for the money.
• SE Sport: This trim adds a hybrid drivetrain plus sporty exterior touches and a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. It suits you if efficiency matters and you want a more distinctive look than the SE.
• SEL: This trim adds fog lamps, roof racks, a hands-free power liftgate, memory seating, a heated steering wheel, and upgraded interior materials. It is the right step up if you want more convenience and comfort features.
• Titanium: This is the most premium version, with unique wheels, LED fog lamps, acoustic-laminated glass, a dual-panel moonroof, wood trim, leather upholstery, and the premium B&O audio system. It fits you best if you want the most upscale Escape experience.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up just to get the core safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Ford Escape?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage but still need to move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,594 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.58% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,928, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $14,928 sits slightly below last year's $16,509.

That decline suggests the market has become more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a softer pricing environment than owners saw a year ago. If you buy at today’s average, you are starting from a lower cost basis than last year’s shoppers.

For resale, the Escape’s broad appeal and strong feature content should help it remain competitive, especially if you choose a well-equipped trim and keep the vehicle in clean condition. Models with desirable tech and safety equipment are likely to draw more attention when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.42/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Ford Escape safe?

The 2020 Ford Escape earns a Good rating from IIHS in all phases of testing.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver drowsiness monitor. That is a strong standard safety package for a compact SUV.

The Escape also comes with a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, traction control, and a tire-pressure-monitoring system. The main caveat is that NHTSA testing is not cited here, so the IIHS result is the clearest crash-test signal available.

Should I buy a 2020 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.42/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It brings multiple powertrain options, stylish design, and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,909, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $14,928 average.
• It adds only minor updates, including new appearance packages and slightly improved fuel economy.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because it delivers the redesigned Escape formula at a lower average price and with strong feature content. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year and only want modest updates, the 2021 is the secondary path to consider.
