How much does the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 7.98% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 9,713 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a good car?

Generally — the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earns a 4.48/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise its excellent fuel economy, smooth performance, and spacious interior. The truck also fits a wide range of needs, from work use to everyday driving, thanks to its broad mix of body styles and powertrain choices.

The trade-offs are familiar: some features are missing for the price, and value for money is a weak point. The overview also points to a truck that is appealing because of its capability and equipment spread, but not especially strong on interior polish or standard content.

Only 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful comparison shopping.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.48/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck people feel good about keeping, with praise for its smooth performance, excellent fuel economy, and spacious interior. That combination usually supports confidence in day-to-day ownership, especially when you want a truck that can handle regular use without feeling compromised.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes the Silverado’s broad capability and the way it balances work and everyday duties. Chevrolet’s first scheduled service is free of charge, which helps early ownership costs a bit.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the truck you choose has the equipment and condition you expect for the money.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

At 73.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint match, and any signs of prior repair. Because some listings have accident history, condition matters as much as mileage and trim.

Pay extra attention to the features you want, since some safety and convenience equipment is not standard across the lineup. It is also worth checking camera performance and cabin wear, especially if the truck has seen heavy use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes WT (Work Truck), Custom, LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country, with Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab body styles. The base-oriented trims are more stripped down, while higher trims add more comfort and equipment; the LTZ and High Country stand out for their richer feature content.
• Powertrain: You get a choice among multiple engines, including a new 3.0-liter turbodiesel 6-cylinder, plus broader availability of the turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder, 6.2-liter V8, and 10-speed automatic transmission. The diesel is noted for strong highway efficiency, while the 6.2-liter V8 is described as the recommended engine.
• Safety package: Forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and camera-based adaptive cruise control are limited to LTZ and High Country. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning can be added to LT and RST.
• Infotainment: You get either a 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Chevrolet Connected Access, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Available upgrades include navigation, wireless device charging, a head-up display, and a camera-based rearview mirror.
• Fuel efficiency: The 3.0-liter turbodiesel returns up to 27 mpg on the highway, and the test truck averaged 16.8 mpg in combined use.

Which 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: WT (Work Truck), Custom, LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• WT (Work Truck): This is the most basic path into the Silverado lineup, so it makes sense if you want the truck’s core capability and plan to keep costs down. It is best if you care more about utility than comfort or advanced equipment.
• Custom: This trim adds a bit more everyday appeal while staying on the affordable side of the range. It is a sensible choice if you want a nicer-feeling truck without moving too far upmarket.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it sits in the middle of the lineup and can be paired with useful equipment without jumping to luxury pricing. It is also one of the trims that can add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning.
• RST: Choose this if you want a more style-focused truck with broader equipment flexibility. It also can add blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning.
• LTZ: This is the trim to target if you want the strongest mix of comfort and safety content, since it unlocks forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and camera-based adaptive cruise control.
• High Country: This is the top-end choice if you want the most upscale Silverado experience and the same advanced safety content as LTZ. It suits you best if you want a more premium-feeling truck and are willing to pay for it.

The safety-package gap is important: the most advanced driver-assistance features are limited to LTZ and High Country, so lower trims require compromise.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward patience.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,713 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.98% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,270, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $28,270 sits slightly below last year's $30,721.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can pressure resale values in the near term. If you buy now, you may be entering at a more favorable price point than last year’s shoppers did.

For a future seller, the key takeaway is that trucks with broad appeal and strong equipment flexibility tend to hold attention better than more narrowly configured examples. A well-kept Silverado with desirable features should remain easier to move than one with a sparse build or visible wear.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.48/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 safe?

The Silverado earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for driver and front passenger protection in a head-on collision. In IIHS testing, it earned a Marginal rating for front passenger protection in a small overlap frontal-impact collision on the right side, a Good rating for the driver on the left side, and Poor headlights.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

The Silverado’s standard safety equipment includes a rear-seat reminder system and Teen Driver driving report card technology. Forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and camera-based adaptive cruise control are limited to LTZ and High Country, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning is available on LT and RST.

The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, and the crash-test results are not as strong as you would want from a newer full-size truck.

Should I buy a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.48/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It adds a new turbodiesel engine, broader powertrain availability, and a camera-based adaptive cruise control system.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $26,175, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $28,270 average.
• The redesign brought stronger appeal and a more satisfying mix of comfort, performance, and space.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,873, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,270 average.
• It offers broad configurability and easy-to-use tech, with the Duramax turbodiesel standing out.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the right pick if you want the updated powertrain mix and can find a clean, well-priced example. If your priority is saving money, the 2019 is the better value play; if you want to spend more for a newer truck, the 2021 is the natural step up.
