CarGurus Analysis: 2020 BMW M2

Summary
With 91 currently listed for sale and an average price of $60,821.00, 42.9% of 2020 BMW M2s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 BMW M2 5 / 5 stars.
75.8% of 2020 M2 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 BMW M2 stands out as a compact rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that was built around driving enjoyment first. By 2020, the first-generation M2 had already gained the sharper Competition treatment, including a turbocharged engine rated at 405 hp and 406 lb-ft, along with a stiffer chassis, retuned suspension and electronic driver aids, larger brakes, refreshed exterior bodywork, and newly optional M Sport seats with more side bolstering. That combination gives the car a more serious performance character than a basic coupe, while still keeping the M2’s approachable size and enthusiast-friendly layout.
It also offers the kind of equipment that makes it appealing as a daily driver. The cabin includes an 8.8-inch infotainment screen, and BMW added Apple CarPlay as an option in 2017, while an updated iDrive infotainment system could be operated with a touchscreen display for 2018. The M2’s standard six-speed manual transmission or optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, along with its rear-wheel-drive chassis, helped make it a favorite for enthusiasts looking for daily-driving fun. Buyers should also be aware that the ride is stiff in normal driving and that the styling is not for everyone, but those traits are part of the car’s focused personality rather than accidental flaws.

Aside from the aftermarket spoiler that was put on this car (just not my taste), the M2 was made for people who love to drive. Even without the manual gearbox, it checks almost every other box youd want in a great driving experience. Steering lacks a little bit of feel, but other than that its hard to beat the throttle response and sonorous music coming from under the hood.

2020 BMW M2 Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2020 BMW M2 prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2020 BMW M2 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $60,640 |
| Year-Round Low | $54,992.32 |
| Year-Round High | $68,946.06 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $68,863 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.94% |
Prices have softened 11.94% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 95 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $54,992.32, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 BMW M2 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 BMW M2 earns a user rating of 5/5, which points to strong owner satisfaction. The overview describes it as a compelling choice if you want performance and everyday usability in the same package, with rear-wheel drive, a turbocharged inline-six, and a manual transmission option for a more involved driving experience. It also notes precise handling and a well-tuned chassis, while acknowledging that the ride can be stiff on rough roads. For you, that means this model makes the most sense if you value an engaging sports coupe that still works as a daily driver. 41.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2020 BMW M2 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview points to a well-rounded sports coupe with a balanced performance-and-practicality formula, which is the kind of setup many used buyers look for when they want something enjoyable without giving up everyday usability. Its precise handling and well-tuned chassis also suggest a car engineered with driver confidence in mind. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure prior use and maintenance have not compromised the car’s condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW M2?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then focus your inspection on signs of prior damage, uneven wear, or poor repairs. Because this is a performance-oriented coupe, condition matters more than usual, so pay close attention to how the car drives, brakes, and shifts. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important if you want to confirm that the car still feels tight and well sorted.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW M2?
Yes — this looks like a buyer-friendly market with meaningful price relief and enough inventory to compare options.
- Deal availability: 41.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 95 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.94% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 77.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $54,992.32, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 BMW M2's resale value?
The current average of $60,640 sits slightly below last year's $68,863.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on how well the car is maintained and how desirable it remains relative to similar performance coupes. If you buy carefully and keep the car in strong condition, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation pain later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 BMW M2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 41.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.94% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- It adds a sharper Competition-focused performance upgrade.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, satisfaction, and usable performance, the 2020 is the better primary target. If you are more price-sensitive, compare it carefully against the 2021 only when the newer car’s added performance justifies the higher asking price.
