Used 2020 BMW 2 Series for Sale nearSaint Louis, MO

How much does the 2020 BMW 2 Series cost?

Prices have softened 5.73% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 427 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 BMW 2 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2020 BMW 2 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

It is positioned as BMW’s smallest four-door car and an entry-level subcompact sedan, so it makes the most sense if you want a luxury badge in a compact, city-friendly package. The easy-to-use technology and standard advanced safety features are clear strengths, while the cramped back seat and poor value for money are the main trade-offs.

You also get a market that is somewhat shopper-friendly, with 36.5% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2020 BMW 2 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2020 BMW 2 Series is described as a comfortable, refined daily runabout with a fun side, and its standard safety and tech equipment support that role well. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is refined and makes solid power, which points to a powertrain that should feel composed in everyday use.

The cost-effectiveness notes also frame it as a practical commuter, especially for city driving and tight parking, though the Gran Coupe’s xDrive setup can erase some efficiency advantage. For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is that the car’s value proposition is already thin, so repairs or upkeep can feel more expensive relative to what you get.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW 2 Series?

At 68.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows signs of cosmetic repair. Focus on overall condition, because this model’s value depends heavily on whether it has been kept clean, well-optioned, and free of hidden damage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Gran Coupe’s modern cockpit, solid fit-and-finish, and available ambient lighting help it feel more upscale, but the base setup is still more about entry-level luxury than standout flair.
• Powertrain: The 228i uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, a backup camera, rain-sensing wipers, and front- and side-impact airbags. Available features include adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assistance, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring.
• Infotainment: The Gran Coupe gets an 8.8-inch touchscreen with touch functionality, Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay.
• Fuel efficiency: The 228i Gran Coupe returns 23 mpg city, 33 highway, and 27 combined. In testing, it delivered 25.7 mpg.

Which 2020 BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?

The 2020 BMW 2 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 230i Coupe, 230i Convertible, 228i xDrive Gran Coupe, and M235i Gran Coupe.

Here's the short version:

• 230i Coupe: This is the most affordable way into the lineup and the best fit if you want the classic BMW driving feel, including the rear-wheel-drive character that the Gran Coupe does not have.
• 230i Convertible: Choose this if you want open-air driving and can accept the higher price and efficiency trade-offs that come with the convertible body style.
• 228i xDrive Gran Coupe: This is the best-value pick for most shoppers because it combines the lower entry price of the Gran Coupe with standard tech, useful daily comfort, and all-weather xDrive traction.
• M235i Gran Coupe: Pick this if you want the strongest performance in the Gran Coupe lineup, but it makes the most sense only if you are willing to pay more for the extra power.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, with standard driver-assistance features already included on the Gran Coupe.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW 2 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward careful comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 427 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.73% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 68.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,550, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 BMW 2 Series's resale value?

The current average of $22,773 sits slightly below last year's $24,159.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale upside may be limited unless the car is especially clean, well-equipped, and lightly used.

Because the model has softened over the past year, holding value will depend heavily on condition and trim desirability. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 BMW 2 Series safe?

The 2020 BMW 2 Series earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, a federally mandated backup camera, rain-sensing wipers, and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags. Available driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assistance, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring.

The driver-assist systems are described as seamless and not distracting, which is a good sign for everyday use. The main caveat is that some helpful features remain optional, so you should confirm the exact equipment on any used listing you consider.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW 2 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.73% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for easy-to-use technology and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,499, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,773 average.
• It broadens the lineup with a sedan aimed at buyers who want an affordable BMW.

The bottom line: If you want the better-documented market right now, the 2020 is the safer shopping target because pricing has eased and inventory is available. If your priority is spending less, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path, especially if you are open to its broader lineup and slightly lower average price.
