Used 2020 BMW 2 Series for Sale near Michigan

How much does the 2020 BMW 2 Series cost?

Prices have softened 5.19% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 414 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 BMW 2 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2020 BMW 2 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

It fits best if you want an entry-level luxury car that feels approachable, with easy-to-use technology and standard advanced safety features. The trade-offs are clear: the back seat is cramped, and the value proposition is weaker than the badge suggests.

Only 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you may need to shop selectively to find the right one.

Is the 2020 BMW 2 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2020 BMW 2 Series is positioned as a refined daily runabout with a fun side, and its standard equipment and easy-to-use tech support that role. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is described as refined and solidly powered for everyday driving, which points to a powertrain that should feel familiar and manageable in used-car ownership.

The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps soften early ownership costs. For used buyers, the bigger long-term risk is less about complexity and more about whether the car was maintained carefully and driven on roads that didn’t punish the suspension.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW 2 Series?

At 70.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Pay close attention to body condition, interior wear, and whether the car’s ride and steering feel consistent on a test drive. Because this model is positioned as a compact luxury car with a sporty edge, condition matters a lot when you’re judging value.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Gran Coupe is built on a front-wheel-drive-bias platform, unlike the rear-wheel-drive 2 Series Coupe and Convertible, and its cabin is modern and purposeful rather than especially elegant. The base setup includes useful everyday features, but the premium packages add the more desirable comfort and convenience equipment.
• Powertrain: The 228i uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and available xDrive all-wheel drive. It is refined and strong enough for daily driving, but turbo lag is noticeable and the car is less natural than the rear-wheel-drive versions.
• Safety package: Standard safety features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, a backup camera, rain-sensing wipers, and front- and side-impact airbags. Available features include adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assistance, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring.
• Infotainment: The Gran Coupe gets an 8.8-inch touchscreen with touch functionality, Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay. A fully digital instrument panel and head-up display are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The 228i Gran Coupe returns 23 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 27 combined in EPA testing. In mixed driving, it was observed at 25.7 mpg.

Which 2020 BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?

The 2020 BMW 2 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 230i Coupe, M240i Coupe, 228i xDrive Gran Coupe, M235i xDrive Gran Coupe.

Here's the short version:

• 228i xDrive Gran Coupe: This is the best-value choice if you want the most affordable path into the Gran Coupe body style with the standard 8.8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, and the core safety tech. It suits you best if you want a luxury commuter with easy-to-use tech more than a driver’s car.
• M235i xDrive Gran Coupe: Choose this if you want the strongest Gran Coupe performance, since it adds the higher-output turbo four-cylinder with 301 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque. It is the right pick if you care more about speed and response than value.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, with standard driver-assistance features already included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW 2 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 414 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.19% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 70.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,534, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 BMW 2 Series's resale value?

The current average of $22,870 sits slightly below last year's $24,123.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car easier to buy than to sell later. If you purchase at the right price and keep mileage and condition in check, you may be better positioned to limit depreciation. The strongest resale prospects will come from well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 BMW 2 Series safe?

The 2020 BMW 2 Series earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, a backup camera, rain-sensing wipers, and front- and side-impact airbags. Available driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assistance, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring.

The driver-assist systems are described as seamless and not distracting, which is a good sign if you want safety tech that stays in the background. The main caveat is that some of the more advanced features are optional rather than standard.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW 2 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 70.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers easy-to-use technology and standard advanced safety features in a compact luxury package.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,371, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,870 average.
• It adds a clearer focus on fun driving and impressive technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better-known current-year pricing context and a broad pool of listings, the 2020 is the safer shopping target. If your priority is spending less and you’re comfortable with a nearby-year alternative, the 2021 is the more price-sensitive path.
