How much does the 2020 BMW 2 Series cost?

Prices have softened 6.14% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 434 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 BMW 2 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2020 BMW 2 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

It is positioned as BMW’s smallest four-door model, which makes it appealing if you want an affordable way into the brand and a compact luxury package. The trade-offs are clear: the back seat is cramped, and the value proposition is weak relative to what you pay.

The market also shows 33.9% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 BMW 2 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2020 BMW 2 Series is described as a refined daily runabout with easy-to-use technology and standard advanced safety features. Its powertrain is presented as refined and solid for everyday driving, and the driver-assist systems are described as seamless and not distracting.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to a comfortable, practical daily role, though the car’s compact packaging and premium pricing mean long-term ownership costs can still feel elevated for used buyers.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW 2 Series?

At 69.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, especially if you are comparing cars with similar prices but different condition histories. Focus on signs of wear in the cabin, the rear seat area, and any evidence that the car has been used hard or repaired after a collision.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Gran Coupe’s standard setup includes power-folding heated side mirrors, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, and 10-way power-adjustable front seats. The Premium Package adds a heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, ambient cabin lighting, and a head-up display.
• Powertrain: The 228i uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive. It is refined and strong enough for daily driving, though turbo lag is noticeable from a stop.
• Safety package: Standard safety features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, a backup camera, rain-sensing wipers, and front- and side-impact airbags. Available features include adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assistance, automatic high beams, and blind-spot monitoring.
• Infotainment: The Gran Coupe comes with an 8.8-inch touchscreen, touch functionality, Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay. A fully digital instrument panel and head-up display are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The 228i Gran Coupe returns 23 mpg city, 33 highway, and 27 combined, with observed real-world fuel economy of 25.7 mpg.

Which 2020 BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?

The 2020 BMW 2 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 230i Coupe, 230i Convertible, 228i xDrive Gran Coupe, and M235i Gran Coupe.

Here's the short version:

• 230i Coupe: This is the most affordable path into the lineup and the one to choose if you want the classic BMW 2 Series driving feel. It is the best-value pick for shoppers who care more about the traditional coupe experience than extra doors or extra power.
• 230i Convertible: Choose this if open-air driving matters most and you are willing to pay more for the convertible body style. It suits buyers who want the same basic character as the coupe with added top-down enjoyment.
• 228i xDrive Gran Coupe: This is the best-value trim for most used shoppers because it adds the four-door layout, standard tech, and a strong list of convenience and safety equipment. It is the right choice if you want an affordable BMW sedan-like package with easier access and a more modern cabin.
• M235i Gran Coupe: Pick this if you want the most power in the Gran Coupe lineup and are willing to pay for it. It is the performance-oriented choice, but the content still frames the Gran Coupe as less natural than the rear-wheel-drive coupe and convertible.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, with standard driver-assistance features already included and additional aids available on higher-spec versions.

What is the 2020 BMW 2 Series's resale value?

The current average of $22,795 sits slightly below last year's $24,287.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on broad market appreciation.

Should I buy a 2020 BMW 2 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.14% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 adds the Gran Coupe’s affordable entry into BMW ownership with standard advanced safety and easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,341, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,795 average.
• It broadens the lineup with a more clearly defined affordable BMW sedan identity.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current inventory, softened pricing, and standard safety equipment, the 2020 is the safer shopping target. If your priority is spending less and you are open to a nearby year, the 2021 is the better price-first alternative.
