The Audi S3 is a subcompact sedan that sits at the top of the brand’s A3 model line. With plenty of visual and performance enhancements, the S3 is an interesting take on an otherwise practical luxury car. For 2020, Audi has reshuffled the trim levels, adding a new base Premium trim below the Premium Plus, but getting rid of the former top-tier Prestige trim. Rivals include the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and BMW 3 Series.

The S3 dresses up the A3 with LED headlights, a gray grille, 18-inch wheels, and quad exhaust outlets that hint at the car’s performance. For 2020, a new Quantum Gray finish is available.

The S3’s powertrain carries over and consists of a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine rated for 288 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive (AWD) come standard. For fuel economy, you’re looking at ratings of 22 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined.

The two trims for 2020 are Premium and Premium Plus. The Premium trim comes standard with a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, 8-way power front seats, heated front seats, and Audi Drive Select driving mode. Standard tech includes a 10-speaker audio system, a 7-inch display, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Options include the 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit driver information display, navigation, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system. The Premium Plus trim adds dual-zone climate control, wireless device charging, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.

The 2020 Audi S3 earns a 5-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Standard features include a reversing camera and tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Options for the Premium trim include side cross-traffic assist, rear cross-traffic assist, and front and rear parking sensors. The Premium Plus trim includes forward-collision warning and high-beam assist.
