Summary

Why it stands out
The 2020 Audi Q7 stands out as a refreshed midsize luxury SUV that gets a thorough update to its styling, interior, powertrain, and technology. Those changes help keep it competitive in the midsize luxury SUV class, and the test drive notes also point to a vehicle that is fun to drive and powered by a strong engine. For buyers who want a premium three-row SUV that feels modern and polished, that combination is a major part of its appeal.
At the same time, the 2020 Audi Q7 is not without compromises. The third row is cramped, and cargo space is limited, which can matter for families who need maximum room for people and gear. Owner feedback reinforces the Q7’s upscale character, with praise for its luxurious features, smooth and quiet ride, comfort, safety features, and drivability, while also noting concerns about price and storage.

In a very short amount of time with this car, it has shown me what a good luxury SUV should and can feel like. Drive is fantastic, interior is no fuss and well put together, outside of the lack of useful "pocket/hidden" storage, it is absolutely a delight to own.

Excellent safety features and a solid vehicle for the ride. You get what you pay for .My prior one was 3 years old and as solid as when it was new. Storage in the front center counsel could be better for women who have purses but otherwise fit/finish and quality shine through. Extended Lexus SUV and Volvo C 90 are close competitors but hate the Lexus front end ( aesthetics ) and Volvo is a box.

I have owned 3 of the Q7s and enjoy the comfort, driveability, and is great in the snow. Other models are the Lexus, which is boring; Honda Pilot not as luxurious and the Lincoln Navigator which is a tank.

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the Q7’s smooth, quiet ride and comfort over time. The expert notes also reinforce its well-rounded character, including responsive acceleration and a composed driving feel that supports confidence in daily use.
Audi’s 48-volt mild-hybrid system helps reduce engine load and conserve fuel, which adds to the sense of efficient, modern operation. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which is a nice ownership perk.
For used buyers, the bigger long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the vehicle has been maintained well enough to preserve its premium systems and overall condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Audi Q7?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the electronics, suspension, and any signs of wear from family use. Given the Q7’s premium positioning, condition matters a lot, especially if you want to avoid paying top dollar for a vehicle that has been neglected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Q7 is available in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trim levels. The base setup already includes Quattro all-wheel drive, leather upholstery, and a third-row seat, while higher trims add more equipment and the Prestige upgrade brings features such as adaptive air suspension and a head-up display.
- Powertrain: The 55 TFSI uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive. Audi also offers a 45 TFSI with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and a performance-oriented SQ7 with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8.
- Safety package: Audi’s advanced driver-assistance systems include Emergency Assist, Turn Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Assist with adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assistance, and lane-centering assistance. The Executive Package with Premium Plus trim or the Prestige trim adds upgrades to the standard ADAS offering.
- Infotainment: The Q7 uses a dual-screen MMI Touch Response setup with a 10.1-inch upper screen and an 8.6-inch lower screen. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, natural voice recognition, handwriting recognition, navigation with Google Earth imagery, and Audi Connect services with a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA says the Q7 should get 18 mpg combined, and the test vehicle averaged 21 mpg on a road trip and 18.1 mpg on a local fuel-economy loop.
Which 2020 Audi Q7 trim should I buy?
The 2020 Audi Q7 is offered in 3 trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, Prestige.
Here's the short version:
- Premium: This is the entry point if you want the Q7’s core appeal at the lowest price. You still get Quattro all-wheel drive, leather upholstery, and a third-row seat, so it covers the essentials well.
- Premium Plus: This is the trim to focus on if you want a stronger mix of equipment and value. It can be paired with the Executive Package for upgraded driver-assistance features, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
- Prestige: This is the most fully equipped version, adding features such as adaptive air suspension, a head-up display, and more standard technology and comfort equipment. It suits you best if you want the most polished Q7 experience.
For safety-package shoppers, the Executive Package with Premium Plus trim or the Prestige trim is where the key ADAS upgrades appear.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Audi Q7?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,001 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.83% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 77.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $24,574, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Audi Q7's resale value?
The current average of $24,647 sits slightly below last year's $27,954.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently today. For a future seller, it also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle is equipped. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than neglected ones, especially in a premium SUV segment where shoppers compare equipment closely.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Audi Q7 safe?
The 2020 Audi Q7 earns Top Safety Pick+ recognition from IIHS, though its headlights are rated poor.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Audi equips the Q7 with advanced driver-assistance systems that include Emergency Assist, Turn Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Assist with adaptive cruise control, traffic-jam assistance, and lane-centering assistance. The Executive Package with Premium Plus trim or the Prestige trim adds upgrades to the standard ADAS offering.
The main safety caveat is the poor headlight assessment, which keeps the Q7 from a cleaner safety result despite otherwise strong crash protection.
Should I buy a 2020 Audi Q7 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.83% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 model year brings a thorough update to styling, interior, powertrain, and technology, while still delivering a strong engine and a fun driving experience.
The bottom line: If you want the most modern-feeling Q7 in this price band, the 2020 is the one to target. If you are mainly shopping for the lowest entry price, a nearby older year may cost less, but you give up some of the refresh that makes this model year feel more current.
