At 60.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

The current average of $12,375 sits slightly below last year's $13,603.

That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point, but it also suggests the model has been losing some market value over time. If you plan to resell later, your best protection is to buy well, keep mileage reasonable, and choose a clean-history example that will appeal to the widest pool of shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2019 Volkswagen Passat or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.03% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $12,250, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $12,375 average.
• It adds more power and a sportier GT trim.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $14,120, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $12,375 average.
• It brings a refresh that keeps the roomy, value-focused formula current.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and available inventory, the 2019 is the primary year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2018 is the better value play, while the 2020 makes sense only if you want to spend more for the newer refresh.
