How much does the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta cost?

There are 1,439 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its value, safety, performance, spacious interior, smooth driving experience, and impressive gas mileage. The overview also points to a comfortable and functional cabin, easy-to-use technology, and an athletic ride, which helps it feel more polished than many small cars.

The main trade-off is that some drivers want a better audio system and more advanced features, and the design may not appeal to everyone. Even so, the Jetta’s mix of everyday practicality and a more refined personality makes it a strong fit if you want a compact sedan that feels a little more upscale and engaging.

There are 34.4% good or great deals in the market, which is a healthy sign for shoppers looking for value.

Is the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with owners highlighting value, safety, performance, and a car they feel good about keeping over time. The expert summary also frames the Jetta as efficient, reliable transportation at a manageable price, while the performance notes emphasize that it handles both city driving and highway cruising without hidden weaknesses.

The cost-effectiveness notes also reinforce that the Jetta combines comfort, efficiency, and enjoyable driving in a way that supports everyday dependability. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that condition and maintenance history matter more than the badge, so a careful inspection is still important.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Volkswagen Jetta?

At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had any prior damage or inconsistent service records. Focus on body condition, interior wear, and whether the equipment works as expected, since the Jetta’s appeal depends heavily on its comfort and technology.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED head- and taillights, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the SE adds V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces, a panoramic moonroof, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and keyless entry with push-button start. The R-Line adds unique bumpers, side skirts, fog lights, and 17-inch wheels, the SEL adds an 8-inch infotainment screen and Digital Cockpit, and the SEL Premium adds leather upholstery, heated rear seats, navigation, and a premium audio system.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic. The setup is tuned for responsive low-speed power and efficient highway cruising.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a full array of front and side airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, and automatic post-collision braking. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and forward-collision avoidance are standard on the SE, R-Line, SEL, and SEL Premium, but optional on the base S. The SEL and SEL Premium also add adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams.
• Infotainment: The base system uses a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Car-Net App-Connect, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The SEL and SEL Premium upgrade to a Volkswagen Digital Cockpit with a 10.25-inch display, and the SEL Premium adds integrated navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The Jetta returns 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, with 34 combined.

Which 2019 Volkswagen Jetta trim should I buy?

The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SE, R-Line, SEL, and SEL Premium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and still want a well-equipped car with LED lighting, a touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. It is the best-value trim if you can live without the extra comfort and driver-assistance features found higher up.
• SE: This is the sweet spot for most shoppers because it adds heated front seats, a panoramic moonroof, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry with push-button start, and standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and forward-collision avoidance.
• R-Line: Choose this if you want the sportier appearance package and the XDS differential, but it does not add more horsepower. It makes sense if styling and a slightly more sporting feel matter more to you than extra equipment.
• SEL: This is the upgrade for shoppers who want the 8-inch infotainment screen, Digital Cockpit, satellite radio, and more advanced standard driver assistance. It is a strong choice if you want a more premium-feeling cabin.
• SEL Premium: Pick this if you want the most upscale Jetta, with leather upholstery, heated rear seats, navigation, memory seating, and the premium audio system.

The SEL and SEL Premium also add adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams, so they are the trims to target if you want the fullest safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Volkswagen Jetta?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,439 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.80% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,882, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta's resale value?

The current average of $12,882 sits slightly below last year's $13,675.

That softer pricing suggests the Jetta has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay competitive on condition and equipment. If you own a well-kept example with desirable features and a clean history, you should be in a better position than sellers of rougher cars with prior damage.

The market trend also shows that buyers are responding to value, so a clean, well-optioned Jetta can still stand out. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta safe?

The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes with a full array of front and side airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, and automatic post-collision braking. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and forward-collision avoidance are standard on the SE, R-Line, SEL, and SEL Premium, but optional on the base S.

The SEL and SEL Premium add adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams, giving those trims the most complete driver-assistance package. If you are shopping the base S, the main safety caveat is that some of those features are not standard.

Should I buy a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.80% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says Volkswagen was trying to return the Jetta to its more refined, upscale roots, and the 2019 model is presented as that reset.

The bottom line: If you want the Jetta that most clearly reestablishes the model’s upscale feel and enjoyable driving character, the 2019 is the one to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2019 offers a strong mix of value, comfort, and equipment for the money.

How does the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta compare to the 2019 Honda Civic?

Our experts score the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta 8.2/10 and the 2019 Honda Civic 7.8/10.

The Jetta stands out for its lower average used price, stronger highway efficiency, and higher share of good or great deals. The Civic counters with more horsepower and a larger pool of listings, but the Jetta looks like the better value if you want a more affordable compact sedan with strong fuel economy and a more upscale feel.
