How much does the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta cost?

Prices have softened 6.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,400 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta a good car?

Yes — 4.89/5 owners’ rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.17/10. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, smooth driving experience, strong gas mileage, value, safety, and performance. The Jetta also fits shoppers who want a compact sedan that feels more upscale and more rewarding to drive than a basic commuter car.

The main trade-off is the potentially polarizing design, and some drivers wish for a better audio system or more advanced features. Even so, the Jetta’s comfortable, functional cabin and easy-to-use tech make it a strong fit if you want a small sedan that feels a little more special than the average rival.

The market also shows 31.8% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta reliable?

Owners rate it 4.89/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with praise for the car’s value, safety, and smooth day-to-day use. The expert notes also emphasize efficient, reliable transportation and a powertrain that feels responsive without giving up refinement.

The cost-effectiveness notes add that the Jetta combines a comfortable, refined interior with efficient performance, which supports the case for steady ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car has been maintained well and hasn’t picked up avoidable wear from prior use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Volkswagen Jetta?

At 64.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. It’s also smart to focus on how the car drives, how the electronics work, and whether the cabin and controls show wear that matches the mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S comes well equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED head- and taillights, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Car-Net App-Connect, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The SE adds V-Tex leatherette seating surfaces, a panoramic moonroof, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and keyless entry with push-button start, while the SEL and SEL Premium add more upscale cabin and convenience features. If you want the best value, the SE is the trim that most clearly balances equipment and price.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic, and the setup is tuned to feel responsive from a stop while still working well at highway speeds.
• Safety package: The SE, R-Line, SEL, and SEL Premium include standard forward-collision avoidance and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, while those features are optional on the base S. The SEL and SEL Premium add adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams.
• Infotainment: The base system uses a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Car-Net App-Connect, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The SEL and SEL Premium upgrade to an 8-inch screen and Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, which adds a configurable 10.25-inch display.
• Fuel efficiency: The Jetta returns 30 miles per gallon city, 40 highway, and 34 combined with either transmission.

Which 2019 Volkswagen Jetta trim should I buy?

The 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SE, R-Line, SEL, and SEL Premium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still brings a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, LED lighting, and alloy wheels. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Jetta without giving up the core tech.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds heated front seats, a panoramic moonroof, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry with push-button start, and standard driver-assistance features. It’s the trim that most clearly improves comfort and everyday convenience.
• R-Line: Choose this if you want the sportier appearance and the XDS differential for a more sporting drive. It adds unique exterior and interior touches, but it doesn’t bring extra horsepower.
• SEL: This is the step up for shoppers who want more luxury and tech, including the upgraded 8-inch screen, Digital Cockpit, satellite radio, and more advanced driver assistance.
• SEL Premium: This is the top trim, adding leather upholstery, heated rear seats, navigation, a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory, and the most complete feature set.

The SEL and SEL Premium also come standard with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,400 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,930, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta's resale value?

The current average of $13,016 sits slightly below last year's $13,906.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the car for a while. For a future seller, the softer pricing means resale gains may be limited unless the car is especially clean, well maintained, and equipped with desirable features.

The Jetta’s strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal should help support demand, especially for shoppers who want a comfortable, efficient compact sedan with good tech. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.89/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta safe?

The Jetta comes with a full array of front and side airbags as well as a reversing camera and a tire pressure monitoring system.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The SE, R-Line, SEL, and SEL Premium include standard forward-collision avoidance and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, while those features are optional on the base S. The SEL and SEL Premium add adaptive cruise control, a lane-keeping assist system, and automatic high beams.

Should I buy a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.89/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 model year brings back the Jetta’s upscale feel, rewarding driving experience, and easy-to-use technology.

The bottom line: If you want the Jetta that best captures the nameplate’s more appealing personality, the 2019 is the one to target. It’s the better choice for shoppers who value a refined ride, strong tech, and a more upscale cabin feel. If you’re mainly price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on the best-maintained, best-priced examples rather than stretching for a newer year.
