Is the 2019 Subaru Legacy reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2019 Legacy’s reliability case is tied to its practical design, standard all-wheel drive, and safety-first equipment. It is built around a straightforward midsize-sedan formula that prioritizes everyday usability over complexity. For used buyers, that usually means lower ownership risk if you verify maintenance history and avoid neglected examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Subaru Legacy?

At 59.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection on any car that looks especially clean or unusually cheap. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s safety systems and all-wheel-drive hardware have been maintained properly. A careful condition check matters here because the market includes a meaningful number of cars with accident history.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Subaru Legacy?

If you find a listing below $15,853, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Subaru Legacy's resale value?

The current average of $15,881 sits slightly below last year's $16,643.

That softer pricing suggests the Legacy is currently in a buyer-friendly phase, which can help you if you plan to sell later by keeping your entry cost lower today. The recent decline also means future resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. If you buy a clean example at the right price, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation pain later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2019 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $17,303, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $15,881 average.
• It adds a more mainstream interior and updated technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2019 is the stronger starting point because it combines lower pricing with solid deal availability. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer cabin and tech improvements, the 2020 is the better secondary path.
