How much does the 2019 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 4.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,276 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Subaru Forester earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, safety features, and smooth performance, and they also value the visibility, comfort, and all-wheel-drive capability. That lines up well with the Forester’s practical mission: it is aimed at families and drivers who want confidence in changing weather without giving up everyday usability.

The trade-offs are clear, though: performance is fairly pedestrian, and the styling is uninspired. Even so, if you want a compact SUV that prioritizes usefulness over flash, the Forester fits that brief well. Good and great deals account for 36.1% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with repeated praise for its comfort, visibility, and all-wheel-drive confidence. The expert summary also emphasizes that the Forester has long been associated with reliability and practical everyday use, which reinforces its reputation as a vehicle you can count on.

Subaru’s performance notes also support that impression by highlighting the smooth-running boxer engine and the way the drivetrain is tuned for efficiency and steady operation. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about making sure the specific example you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Subaru Forester?

At 71.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the vehicle’s equipment and safety systems are functioning as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim comes quite well equipped, but higher trims add meaningful comfort and convenience upgrades such as a panoramic moonroof, power front seats, heated features, leather upholstery, a larger touchscreen, and a power rear tailgate.
• Powertrain: The 2019 Forester uses a 2.5-liter boxer engine with 182 horsepower and a CVT, and Subaru’s SI-Drive and X-Mode systems are standard to help tailor response and traction for different conditions.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, adaptive headlights, lane-keeping Assist, and a reversing camera.
• Infotainment: Lower trims use a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while the Limited and Touring get an 8-inch screen; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the larger screen is optional on the Sport.
• Fuel efficiency: The Forester returns 26 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, which supports its reputation for solid everyday efficiency.

Which 2019 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2019 Subaru Forester is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want the Forester’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. You still get standard all-wheel drive, EyeSight, LED headlights, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, and useful cabin storage, so it covers the essentials well.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a panoramic moonroof, power front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, reclining rear seatbacks, and 4G Wi-Fi capability without jumping all the way to the pricier upper trims.
• Sport: Choose this if you want more style and a few extra convenience features, including unique interior and exterior accents, heated front seats, push-button start, dual USB ports for the second row, paddle shifters, and a windshield wiper de-icer.
• Limited: This is the comfort-and-tech sweet spot if you want leather upholstery, a power rear tailgate, dual-zone climate control, the larger 8-inch touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Touring: Pick this if you want the most upscale Forester, with heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, a 10-way power driver’s seat, and one-touch quick-release folding rear seats.

Every trim comes with EyeSight, and the Limited and Touring add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Subaru Forester?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,276 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.58% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,495, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $18,495 sits slightly below last year's $19,383.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Because the Forester still has broad appeal among practical SUV shoppers, a clean example should remain easier to move than a less mainstream used vehicle. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2019 Subaru Forester earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance suite, which includes forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, adaptive headlights, and lane-keeping Assist. It also includes a reversing camera plus a full array of front- and side-impact airbags.

That standard safety equipment is a major part of the Forester’s appeal, especially because it is included across the lineup rather than reserved for higher trims. The one caveat is that the vehicle’s safety story is strongest because of its standard equipment and expert score rather than any standout crash-test shortcoming.

Should I buy a 2019 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 model year introduced the all-new Forester with standard all-wheel drive, standard EyeSight, and a stronger focus on comfort, safety, and everyday usability.

The bottom line: If you want the newest Forester generation with strong standard safety and all-weather practicality, the 2019 is the right place to start. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare it with nearby years to see whether a lower-priced example better fits your budget, but the 2019 remains the cleaner choice for shoppers who want the redesigned model’s core strengths.

How does the 2019 Subaru Forester compare to the 2019 Honda CR-V?

Our experts score the 2019 Subaru Forester 8.2/10 and the 2019 Honda CR-V 8/10.

The Forester stands out for standard all-wheel drive, stronger safety emphasis, and a lower average used price, while the CR-V offers slightly more horsepower and a bit more inventory. The Forester also has the better accident-free share, which may matter if you want a cleaner pool of listings to choose from. If you value value, safety, and standard traction, the Forester has the edge; if you want a slightly more powerful mainstream rival with more listings, the CR-V is worth a look.
