How much does the 2019 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 5.16% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,236 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price and condition.

Is the 2019 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Subaru Forester earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, safety features, visibility, comfort, and all-wheel drive capability. That lines up well with the Forester’s use case as a practical compact SUV for families and buyers who want confidence in poor weather and a straightforward ownership experience.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, and the styling is uninspired. Even so, if you care more about usefulness than flash, those compromises are easier to live with.

There are 34.0% good or great deals in the market, which suggests you can still find attractive pricing if you shop carefully.

Is the 2019 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its spaciousness, safety features, visibility, comfort, and all-wheel drive capability. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Subaru’s smooth boxer engine and the Forester’s composed ride, both of which support a low-stress ownership experience.

Subaru also makes the first scheduled maintenance visit easy on your budget, which helps early ownership costs feel more manageable.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core formula and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Subaru Forester?

At 72.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because this model is often bought for practicality and safety, condition matters as much as equipment. It’s also smart to compare how the cabin, infotainment, and driver-assistance features work in person, since those are central to the Forester’s appeal.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, dual front USB ports, a multifunction display, 60/40 split-fold rear seats, and standard LED headlights, AWD, and EyeSight. Premium adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic moonroof, power front seats, and 4G Wi-Fi capability. Sport adds unique styling, heated front seats, push-button start, paddle shifters, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Limited adds leather upholstery, a power rear tailgate, dual-zone climate control, and an 8-inch touchscreen. Touring adds heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, and one-touch quick-release folding rear seats.
• Powertrain: The 2019 Forester uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine with 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and standard symmetrical AWD. Subaru makes SI-Drive standard across the lineup, and X-Mode is standard on all trims, with dual-mode X-Mode on Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard on every trim and includes forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, adaptive headlights, and lane-keeping Assist. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited and Touring.
• Infotainment: The base and Premium trims use a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while the Sport can get the larger screen as an option and the Limited and Touring come standard with an 8-inch touchscreen. Subaru’s Starlink system includes standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the larger screen is standard on the upper trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The Forester returns 26 mpg city, 33 highway, and 29 combined.

Which 2019 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2019 Subaru Forester is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want the Forester’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. You still get standard AWD, EyeSight, LED headlights, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, and a surprisingly useful set of cabin features, so it covers the essentials well.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a panoramic moonroof, power front seats, roof rails, and 4G Wi-Fi capability without jumping too far up the price ladder. If you want a more comfortable daily driver without going luxury-heavy, this is the sweet spot.
• Sport: Choose this if you want more style and a few useful cold-weather and convenience upgrades, including heated front seats, a windshield wiper de-icer, push-button start, and paddle shifters. It also gets the larger touchscreen as an option.
• Limited: This is the trim to target if you want the most balanced upscale feel, with leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, a power rear tailgate, the 8-inch touchscreen, and standard blind-spot monitoring plus rear cross-traffic alert.
• Touring: Pick this if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, and quick-release folding rear seats. It’s the most fully equipped version, but not the best value for every buyer.

Every trim comes with EyeSight standard, so you don’t have to move up the lineup to get the core safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Subaru Forester?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and still find a fair deal.

• Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,236 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.16% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,695, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $18,902 sits slightly below last year's $19,930.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively if they want to move quickly. The current range still shows healthy demand, especially for a model with strong practicality and broad appeal.

If you keep your Forester in clean condition and maintain it well, you’ll be better positioned when it’s time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2019 Subaru Forester earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is standard on every trim and includes forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, adaptive headlights, and lane-keeping Assist. Every Forester also comes with a reversing camera, a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, and strong outward visibility.

The main safety caveat is that some of the most useful driver-assistance and convenience features are trim-dependent, so you’ll want to confirm exactly which equipment is on the specific vehicle you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2019 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.16% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 model stands out for standard AWD, standard EyeSight, and easy-to-use technology.

The bottom line: If you want a practical compact SUV with strong safety, standard all-wheel drive, and broad everyday appeal, the 2019 Forester is a solid choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can also use the current market softness to compare this year against nearby alternatives and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than chasing the lowest sticker alone.
