Overview

One of the most appealing things about the Nissan Versa is its price. The current second-generation model debuted for 2012; it’s available as the standard Nissan Versa in sedan form or as a separate hatchback model called the Versa Note. Changes are minimal for 2019. Updates to the SV Special Edition package now include 15-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, chrome accents on the front fascia, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, special emblems, push-button start, engine immobilizer, satellite radio capability, and Bluetooth. The 2019 Nissan Versa is offered in S, S Plus, and SV trims.
Under the hood, there is only one engine choice. It’s a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated four cylinder that makes 109 horsepower and 107 pound-feet of torque. It comes standard with a 5-speed manual, although the available CVT is also available. That’s just not a lot for a new automobile in this day and age, even a small basic economy car -- and the Versa takes over 11 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour, potentially making passing on the highway a challenge. On the plus side, the Versa, when equipped with a CVT, will manage 31 mpg city, 39 highway, and 34 combined. Around town, the Versa has adequate power for getting around as well as delivering a small turning radius.
The Versa is basic, albeit roomy, on the inside, with plenty of space for large adult passengers in both the front and rear. The 14.9 cubic feet of trunk space is decent, but buyers have to spring for the range-topping SV trim in order to get a split-folding rear seat. The base model Versa S is pretty sparse, offering manual windows and locks. It does feature a 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and cruise control. Stepping up to the SV is the only way to get features like a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power windows, a USB port, and a better stereo.
Because the Versa is an older design, it has missed out on the advanced in automotive safety of the past few years and its crash test results suffer as a result. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Versa a Poor rating in the small front overlap test, and Nissan hasn’t retrofitted the Versa the kind of active safety features that are available in most new cars on the market right now. There is a reversing camera that comes standard.
People looking for a basic commuter car that makes up for its sparseness with fuel economy will want to consider the Versa. It’s one of the most affordable new cars on sale in America and that counts for a lot, although the lack of safety features and lackluster crash test results aren’t reassuring. It’s a car that will get you from Point A to Point B, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I drove the standard model and its features were a perfect fit for me. 5 speed manual did come with power windows or locks, but has a rear view camera and traction control. Test drove the Kia Rio with CVT transmission; Id choose the Versa any day. Good value for a great price.

Good value for the price. Just wish they would have a couple standard features, like power door locks.

How much does the 2019 Nissan Versa cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $9,147 |
| Year-Round Low | $8,553 |
| Year-Round High | $9,529 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $9,450 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.21% |
Prices have softened 3.21% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 520 listings available, which gives you a modest pool of options to compare.
Is the 2019 Nissan Versa a good car?
Generally — the 2019 Nissan Versa earns a 4/5 user rating, which points to solid owner satisfaction for a budget-focused car. Owners commonly praise its economical value, reliability, and usefulness as basic transportation, especially for new drivers and budget-conscious shoppers. The main tradeoff is that some drivers describe it as basic and dated, so you should expect practicality over polish. With 27.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Nissan Versa reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as reliable and economical, and the feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many buyers. That kind of owner sentiment matters if you want a used car you can count on for everyday driving. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the rating and more about finding a well-kept example that has been maintained consistently.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Nissan Versa?
At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, alignment, tires, and signs of uneven wear, since condition matters more when you are shopping a value-oriented used car. Focus on the overall maintenance story and how the car presents in person, not just the asking price.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Nissan Versa?
This is a moderate buyer's market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 520 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.21% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $8,553, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Nissan Versa's resale value?
The current average of $9,147 sits slightly below last year's $9,450.
That softer pricing suggests the model has been under some downward pressure, which can matter if you plan to sell later. If you buy at the right price now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pain over your ownership period. Strong value positioning can help keep demand steady among budget-minded shoppers. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Nissan Versa or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.21% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $11,435, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $9,147 average.
- It adds improved infotainment, better safety tech, and a livelier ride.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2019 if your priority is keeping purchase price down while still getting a car with decent owner satisfaction and a fair number of deal opportunities. If you can stretch your budget and want a newer-feeling Versa with more modern equipment, the 2020 is the better secondary path for shoppers who value added features over the lowest upfront cost.
