How much does the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class cost?

Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class a good car?

Generally — with a 4.4/5 user rating and an 8.00/10 expert rating, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class lands as a strong pick for shoppers who want affordable luxury with a premium feel. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners commonly praise its luxurious feel, strong build quality, and easy handling, and they also like that it feels safe and solid for a compact car. The trade-offs are the poor ergonomic design and the irritating transmission, which can make the driving experience feel less polished than the cabin suggests.

That mix fits the A-Class’s role as Mercedes’ entry-level luxury sedan: you get upscale materials and standout tech without moving into the brand’s pricier models. With 31.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a reliable, dependable, and trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with some noting that it feels solid and easy to count on over time.

The expert evaluation also describes it as a well-built sedan with strong everyday usability, and the cost-effectiveness commentary suggests you can get a lot of car for the money if you avoid piling on options. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some owners have reported reliability concerns, including check engine light issues tied to engine misfires.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class?

At 69.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been optioned heavily or shows signs of prior bodywork. Focus on condition details that matter in a luxury compact: interior wear, electronics behavior, and whether the transmission feels smooth in normal driving.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The A-Class comes in sedan form, and the cabin is the main draw, with premium materials, fit and finish, and a back seat that can actually work for adults. Base equipment is light on advanced safety features, so you’ll want to check whether the car has the packages you care about.
• Powertrain: There’s only one engine available, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 188 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. It delivers power in a mostly linear way, but the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission can be slow to shift and stumble at low speeds.
• Safety package: The available Driver Assistance Package adds a full suite of semi-autonomous safety features that can support hands-free driving in part-time use. The package is especially useful in stop-and-go traffic, but it is not standard.
• Infotainment: The MBUX system uses dual 10.75-inch screens, and the right side is a touchscreen. It also supports voice control, augmented video, and a highly customizable display layout.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is rated at 25 mpg city, 33 highway, and 28 combined.

Which 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class trim should I buy?

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class is offered in 1 trim level: A 220.

Here's the short version:

The A 220: This is the only trim, so your decision is really about how you equip it. It already gives you the core appeal of the car: stylish design, premium interior materials, and impressive technology. If you want the best value, focus on the packages that unlock the screen upgrade and the driver-assistance features, since those are central to what makes this model feel special. The safety package is optional, not standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 288 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.33% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $17,057, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class's resale value?

The current average of $17,057 sits slightly below last year's $19,456.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what you can expect later if you sell. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to limit depreciation losses.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class safe?

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class has no published crash-test ratings from either IIHS or NHTSA in the provided data.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Driver Assistance package adds a full suite of semi-autonomous safety features that can support hands-free driving for part-time use, and it is especially helpful in heavy traffic. The package is not standard, so you should verify that any used example you’re considering has it if advanced driver assistance matters to you.

The expert review also notes that the system can get confused in some city traffic situations, and the augmented video display can be distracting because it pulls your eyes away from the road.

Should I buy a 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It’s the year Mercedes brought a more convincing entry-level luxury formula to North America, with standout technology and a premium cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of price, tech, and upscale feel, the 2019 is the one to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for the best-equipped example you can find, because the right options make a big difference in how complete this car feels.
