CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Mazda CX-5
overall

Summary
With 97 currently listed for sale near Seattle, WA and an average price of $22,107.00, 29.9% of 2019 Mazda CX-5s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Mazda CX-5 4.83 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Mazda CX-5 stands out by building on the model’s strong reputation for style and driving enjoyment rather than simply coasting on it. Mazda updated the CX-5 just one year into its second generation, and the changes were aimed at making an already appealing compact SUV more competitive. The result is a vehicle that combines good looks with a best-in-class driving experience, while also adding improved handling, smartphone connectivity, and a more powerful engine for its new top-tier trims.
That mix of strengths makes the 2019 CX-5 especially attractive to buyers who care about how a crossover feels on the road as much as how it looks in the driveway. Standard advanced safety features and strong value for money add to its appeal, and owners often praise its luxury feel, interior quality, and fuel efficiency. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: the technology can be unintuitive, and the base engine is described as underwhelming, with some owners wishing for more power and a few high-end features that are not present.

Very good on gas! Decently powerful for a 4 cylinder. Comfortable seats. AWD models have great traction in wet. Havent driven in snow with it yet, but will be soon.

If you find a listing below $18,197.27, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.83/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its value, luxury feel, great handling, and impressive fuel efficiency. They also highlight the interior quality and safety features, while some wish for more power and a few higher-end amenities.
The expert review backs that up with strong styling and driving dynamics, though the base engine and the tech interface are less compelling than the rest of the package. For you, that means this is a smart fit if you want a crossover that feels more upscale and engaging than average, especially if you can live with a few usability trade-offs.
32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent chance to find a competitive offer.
Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for value, fuel efficiency, and the kind of quality that makes the vehicle easy to count on over time. The expert review also reinforces that impression by describing the CX-5 as a strong all-around package with solid everyday usability.
The cost-effectiveness review adds that even the top trim delivers a lot for the money, which can help reduce regret over the long haul. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about durability and more about choosing a trim that leaves you wanting more power or features.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?
At 67.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any evidence that safety systems or cameras were repaired after a collision. It also helps to compare trim equipment carefully so you know whether the features you want are actually present.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Sport trim includes LED headlights, a push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a strong safety suite, while the Touring adds keyless entry, a power driver's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate vents, heated front seats, two more USB ports, and an upgraded stereo. The Grand Touring adds adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, leather upholstery, an upgraded driver display, and navigation, while the Signature adds ambient cabin lighting, upgraded leather upholstery, real wood trim, a 360-degree camera, and parking sensors front and rear.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder pairs with a 6-speed automatic and makes 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. The turbocharged version in the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature raises output to as much as 250 hp and 310 lb-ft, or 227 hp on lower-octane fuel.
- Safety package: Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning and mitigation. The 360-degree camera and parking sensors are reserved for the Signature.
- Infotainment: The infotainment system uses a 7-inch touchscreen, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard above the base Sport trim. The system is responsive, though the scroll-wheel interface may not suit everyone, and the 360-degree camera resolution is a weak point.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 25 mpg city and 31 highway, or 28 combined. The turbocharged setup is rated at 22 mpg city and 27 highway, or 24 combined.
Which 2019 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?
The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Signature.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The Sport gives you the essentials, but it lacks Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which makes it the least appealing choice if you care about everyday tech convenience.
- Sweet-spot trim: The Touring is the best value for many shoppers because it adds keyless entry, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, rear vents, and an upgraded stereo without pushing you into the highest price brackets.
- Premium/top trim: The Signature is the most luxurious choice, adding ambient lighting, upgraded leather, real wood trim, a 360-degree camera, and parking sensors front and rear.
- Off-road trim: The turbocharged Grand Touring Reserve and Signature are the best picks if you want more power, but they are also the most expensive and the turbo setup returns lower fuel economy.
All trims get Mazda’s i-ActiveSense safety suite, while the Signature is the only one that adds the 360-degree camera and parking sensors.

- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.63% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,197.27, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Mazda CX-5's resale value?
The current average of $19,102 sits slightly below last year's $19,619.
That price movement suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to sell soon. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and choose a desirable trim, you should still have a solid chance of attracting buyers later. The CX-5’s broad appeal, strong value reputation, and upscale feel should help support demand over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 safe?
A 5-star rating in nearly every category from the government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is blemished solely by a 4-star rating in the rollover category, a weak point for many crossovers. A similar story is told by the independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), which awarded the CX-5 top marks in every category except the child safety anchors' ease of use, which earned the second-highest rating of Acceptable.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning and mitigation. The 360-degree camera and parking sensors are limited to the Signature trim.
The rollover result is the main caveat to keep in mind, especially if you want the strongest possible crash-test profile in a crossover.
Should I buy a 2019 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.63% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Mazda added turbocharged top trims, standard smartphone integration above base, and broader safety equipment this year.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $16,929, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $19,102 average.
- It delivers a premium-feeling cabin and engaging driving dynamics.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $20,363, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $19,102 average.
- It adds an upscale cabin with a turbo option and strong family appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and driving enjoyment, the 2019 is the strongest all-around pick. If your priority is spending less, the 2018 is the value play; if you want a newer-feeling premium experience and can pay more, the 2020 is worth a look.
