overall

Summary
With 126 currently listed for sale near Detroit, MI and an average price of $18,180.00, 23.0% of 2019 Mazda CX-5s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Mazda CX-5 4.83 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Mazda CX-5 stands out by building on the model’s strong reputation for style and driving enjoyment rather than simply coasting on it. Mazda updated the CX-5 just one year into its second generation, and the changes were aimed at making an already appealing compact SUV more competitive. The result is a vehicle that combines good looks with a best-in-class driving experience, while also adding improved handling, smartphone connectivity, and a more powerful engine for its new top-tier trims.
That mix of strengths makes the 2019 CX-5 especially attractive to buyers who care about how a crossover feels on the road as much as how it looks in the driveway. Standard advanced safety features and strong value for money add to its appeal, and owners often praise its luxury feel, interior quality, and fuel efficiency. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: the technology can be unintuitive, and the base engine is described as underwhelming, with some owners wishing for more power and a few high-end features that are not present.

This is a great car! Has android and Apple car play. Sirius XM ready. Grand Touring has all the creature comforts. Curve adaptive headlights improve nighttime driving visibility. Seats are ergonomic. Very good on gas! Decently powerful for a 4 cylinder. Comfortable seats. AWD models have great traction in wet. Havent driven in snow with it yet, but will be soon.

How much does the 2019 Mazda CX-5 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,069 |
| Year-Round Low | $18,193.87 |
| Year-Round High | $19,500.66 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $19,501 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.22% |
Prices have softened 2.22% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,939 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.
If you find a listing below $18,193.87, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.83/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal from both owners and testers.
The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
Owners repeatedly praise its stylish design, luxury feel, great handling, impressive fuel efficiency, interior quality, and safety features. Those strengths line up well with a compact SUV buyer who wants something that feels more polished and rewarding to drive than the average mainstream crossover.
The main trade-offs are the unintuitive technology and the underwhelming base engine, and the expert review also notes that the stronger turbocharged powertrain is reserved for the most expensive trims. That makes the CX-5 especially appealing if you value driving enjoyment and upscale presentation more than maximum simplicity or bargain-basement pricing.
The model’s 33.0% good or great deal rate shows there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for value, safety, and the kind of quality that helps you feel confident keeping the vehicle for the long haul. The expert review reinforces that impression by describing the CX-5 as a strong value with a refined, well-rounded character.
You also get a practical ownership perk in the form of standard advanced safety features across the range, which can help reduce stress in daily driving. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about choosing a trim that matches your power and tech expectations.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?
At 65.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a lower-priced example. Focus on condition, equipment, and whether the trim level actually includes the features you want, since some desirable items are reserved for higher trims.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Sport trim includes LED headlights, a push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, and a strong safety suite, while Touring adds keyless entry, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate vents, heated front seats, two more USB ports, and an upgraded stereo. Grand Touring adds adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, leather upholstery, an upgraded driver display, and navigation, while Grand Touring Reserve and Signature bring the turbocharged engine and more luxury features. The base trim is the one most likely to feel feature-light if you want smartphone connectivity and more upscale equipment.
- Powertrain: The standard setup is a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder with a 6-speed automatic making 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. Grand Touring Reserve and Signature use a turbocharged version with up to 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, or 227 horsepower on lower-octane fuel.
- Safety package: Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning and mitigation. The top Signature trim adds the 360-degree camera and parking sensors.
- Infotainment: The CX-5 uses MazdaConnect with a 7-inch touchscreen, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard above the base Sport trim. The system is attractive and responsive, though the scroll-wheel interface may not suit everyone.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 25 mpg city, 31 highway, and 28 combined. The turbocharged setup is rated at 22 mpg city and 27 highway, for 24 combined.
Which 2019 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?
The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Signature.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the CX-5’s core strengths: stylish design, LED headlights, a push-button ignition, a 7-inch touchscreen, and standard advanced safety features. It makes sense if you want the lowest price, but it’s also the trim most likely to leave you wanting more tech and convenience.
- Touring: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds keyless entry, a power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate vents, heated front seats, extra USB ports, and an upgraded stereo. If you want a more comfortable daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the sweet spot.
- Grand Touring: This trim adds leather upholstery, adaptive headlights, LED fog lights, an upgraded driver display, and navigation. It suits you if you want a more upscale cabin and more premium lighting and convenience features.
- Grand Touring Reserve: This is the first trim with the turbocharged engine, plus a head-up display, power-folding mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Choose this if you want the stronger powertrain and a more luxury-like experience.
- Signature: This is the top trim, adding ambient cabin lighting, upgraded leather upholstery, real wood trim, a 360-degree camera, and parking sensors front and rear. It’s the right pick if you want the most premium CX-5 and are willing to pay for it.
The safety suite is standard across the range, while the 360-degree camera and parking sensors are reserved for the Signature trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mazda CX-5?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing into the first decent listing.
- Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,939 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.22% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,193.87, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Mazda CX-5's resale value?
The current average of $19,069 sits slightly below last year's $19,501.
That kind of softening suggests the market has become a little more favorable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you’re planning to sell later, the CX-5’s strong reputation for style, handling, and value should help support demand. Well-equipped trims and clean-condition examples are likely to hold up better than base models with fewer features.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Mazda CX-5 safe?
A 5-star rating in nearly every category from the government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is blemished solely by a four-star rating in the rollover category, and the independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the CX-5 top marks in every category except the child safety anchors' ease of use, which earned Acceptable.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite is standard across the range and includes automatic headlights, wipers, and high beams; lane-departure warning and assist; adaptive cruise control; and forward-collision warning and mitigation. The 360-degree camera and parking sensors are reserved for the Signature trim.
The rollover result is the main caveat to keep in mind, but the overall safety picture remains strong for used shoppers.
Should I buy a 2019 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.22% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Mazda added Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, improved handling, and a turbo engine for top trims.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $16,732, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $19,069 average.
- It emphasizes style, sophistication, and an engaging driving experience.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $20,216, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $19,069 average.
- It leans further into premium territory with upscale materials and a more luxury-like feel.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and updated features, the 2019 is the strongest all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2018 can still deliver the CX-5’s core appeal for less, while the 2020 makes sense if you want to spend more for a slightly more premium presentation.
