Is the 2019 Mazda CX-3 a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Mazda CX-3 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its sporty driving feel, stylish design, and great gas mileage. The expert review also highlights its premium interior materials and upscale appearance, which help it feel more refined than many small crossovers.

The trade-offs are clear: it is cramped inside, with limited back-seat room and not much cargo space, and it needs more power. That makes it a better fit if you value style and driving enjoyment over maximum utility.

With 32.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its performance, stylish design, and trouble-free ownership experience. The expert review also emphasizes that the CX-3 is enjoyable to drive over the long term, with a polished character that makes it feel more substantial than its size suggests.

Mazda also notes that the CX-3’s safety and driver-assistance systems are available across the lineup, which can help reduce ownership stress when you choose the right trim. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about whether the small cabin and limited utility will still suit your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Mazda CX-3?

At 60.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, alignment, and interior wear. Because this model is small and practical compromises are part of the package, it is especially important to confirm that the condition matches the seller’s description and that any prior damage was repaired properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring each build on the CX-3’s upscale look and feel, with Grand Touring adding the richest cabin presentation, full leather upholstery, and available premium features. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 148 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and an optional predictive intelligent all-wheel-drive system can send power rearward before slip is felt.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on all trim levels. Sport and Touring can be equipped with iActiveSense packages, while Grand Touring gets adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, all-speed forward emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a 7-inch touchscreen, center-console controls, and voice commands. It includes navigation and a Bose 7-speaker sound system in Grand Touring trim, but it does not include Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA estimates 29 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined for front-wheel drive, while AWD drops those figures to 27 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined. In testing, it returned 29.2 mpg on a mixed loop.

Which 2019 Mazda CX-3 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Mazda CX-3 is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the CX-3’s core strengths: stylish design, lively handling, and standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is also the trim most likely to feel sparse.
• Touring: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it keeps the CX-3’s upscale character while moving you up from the base setup. It is the trim to target if you want a more satisfying balance of equipment and price.
• Grand Touring: This is the most polished version, with the richest interior presentation, full leather upholstery, navigation, a Bose 7-speaker sound system, paddle shifters, and standard adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability. Choose it if you want the most premium CX-3 experience.

For safety-minded shoppers, the available iActiveSense packages on Sport and Touring, plus the standard advanced driver-assistance setup on Grand Touring, are worth prioritizing.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Mazda CX-3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting huge discounts everywhere.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 255 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.69% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,718, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Mazda CX-3's resale value?

The current average of $15,819 sits slightly below last year's $16,596.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-3 is in a buyer-friendly phase right now, which can work against a future seller if the market stays soft. On the other hand, the model’s premium feel and strong owner satisfaction help support demand from shoppers who want style and driving enjoyment in a small crossover.

If you buy well and keep the vehicle in clean condition, you should be in a better position when it comes time to sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Mazda CX-3 safe?

The 2019 Mazda CX-3 earns five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s iActiveSense packages add a broad set of driver-assistance features, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on all trim levels. Grand Touring adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, all-speed forward emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive high-beam headlights, while Sport and Touring can get those technologies through option packages.

One caveat is that the federal crash-test writeup notes elevated thoracic injury potential for the left rear-seat dummy in the side-pole test. That does not erase the CX-3’s strong overall safety showing, but it is worth keeping in mind if rear-seat protection is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2019 Mazda CX-3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds more style and sophistication, with a more polished feel and improved refinement.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $14,952, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $15,819 average.
• It adds standard safety features and improved cabin comfort.

The bottom line: If you want the more refined and better-equipped CX-3, the 2019 is the stronger pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2018 is the value play, especially if you can find one in clean condition with the features you want.
