What should I look for when buying a used 2019 GMC Sierra 1500?

At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage truck or one with a lot of prior use. Focus on body condition, signs of repair, and whether the truck’s equipment and drivability match the seller’s description.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin ranges from a more work-oriented feel to a more upscale one, with the Denali adding premium leather, open-pore wood trim, and real aluminum accents. The base truck is more stripped down, so you should compare comfort and convenience equipment carefully if you want a more polished daily driver.
• Powertrain: The truck was offered with multiple drivetrains, including a 6.2-liter V8 in the test vehicle, and GMC’s Dynamic Fuel Management was designed to balance performance and efficiency. The review also notes strong acceleration and a 10-speed automatic in the higher-output setup.
• Safety package: Driver Alert Package 1 adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. Driver Alert Package 2, available on SLT, AT4, and Denali, adds forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: All Sierras include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus GMC Connected Services and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. The test truck also had an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, a Bose premium sound system, and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review cites an EPA estimate of 17 mpg in combined driving for the test truck, and notes that real-world fuel economy settled around 16.3 mpg after extended driving.

Which 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Base, SLE, SLT, Denali, Elevation, AT4.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and don’t mind a simpler truck. It’s the trim to consider if you care more about getting into a Sierra than loading up on luxury or convenience features.
• SLE: This is the practical middle ground, and it’s the trim that the Elevation builds on. If you want a better balance of equipment and value than the base truck, this is the one to watch most closely.
• SLT: This is the better choice if you want a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to Denali. It also unlocks more advanced safety equipment, which makes it a smart step up for many shoppers.
• Denali: This is the luxury pick, with premium leather, open-pore wood trim, real aluminum accents, and the most upscale presentation in the lineup. Choose it if you want the Sierra to feel as premium as possible.
• Elevation: This is the style-focused version built on the SLE, so it’s for you if appearance matters and you want a more customized look without moving into Denali territory.
• AT4: This is the off-roading model based on the SLT, so it’s the right fit if you want a more adventure-oriented Sierra with the equipment and character to match.

Driver Alert Package 2 is available on the SLT, AT4, and Denali, while Driver Alert Package 1 can be fitted to every version.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 GMC Sierra 1500?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,099 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.51% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 69.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,654, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $30,654 sits slightly below last year's $33,878.

That softer pricing suggests the truck has already moved through a meaningful part of its depreciation curve, which can help future sellers if demand stays steady. Because the Sierra still has strong owner satisfaction and a premium reputation, well-kept examples should remain easier to market than neglected ones.

For you as a buyer, that means condition and equipment matter a lot: a cleaner, better-equipped truck should hold its appeal better than a rougher one. If you plan to resell later, keeping service records and avoiding accident history will matter more than chasing the cheapest example now.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 had not been rated by the federal government or IIHS at the time of the review.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every version can be fitted with Driver Alert Package 1, which includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors. On SLT, AT4, and Denali, Driver Alert Package 2 adds forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.

A key caveat is that adaptive cruise control, full-speed-range automatic braking, and lane-centering assist are not included. If those features matter to you, you’ll want to pay close attention to trim and equipment.

Should I buy a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 69.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 is the redesigned model, with broader improvements in capability, usefulness, and overall polish.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $25,720, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $30,654 average.
• It adds standard reversing camera and infotainment equipment for easier everyday use.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $32,413, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $30,654 average.
• It adds more utility-minded touches and a broader comfort-and-convenience focus.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned truck with stronger overall appeal, the 2019 is the primary pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2018 can save you money while still delivering useful standard equipment.
