CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Ford Expedition

Summary
With 219 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,868, 25.6% of 2019 Ford Expedition listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Ford Expedition 4.85 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2019 Ford Expedition stands out as a full-size SUV that leans hard into family-hauling comfort without giving up truck-based capability. It offers a third row, plenty of passenger space, and a smooth ride, helped by its independent rear suspension. It also has adjustable pedals, a feature the source highlights as something you can get on the modern Expedition but not on the GM full-size SUV twins. For buyers who want a big SUV that feels more accommodating than rugged, that combination is a major part of its appeal.
It also keeps pace with modern tech better than many vehicles in its class. The Expedition adds satellite radio, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, 360-degree cameras, and hands-free driving capabilities, while top-trim models can bring luxury touches such as a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a 15.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, massaging seats, and special leather seating surfaces. The standard drivetrain is rear-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available, and the model does not offer a hybrid. On the downside, the source notes that the Expedition can be loud on the highway, tough to drive in tight spaces, and that max horsepower depends on premium fuel.

The interior is excellent and the exterior is very nice. The thing I'm most concerned with is that the EcoBoost engine has a fluttering ticking sound when I start it fresh in the morning....I've read that this condition can lead to some very costly repairs for a vehicle with less than 100K on it!!! And Ford realized that the original parts were inferior for that model year and subsequently replaced it with a better one a year later but they didn't do a recall on affected vehicles because of the cost and potential loss of future sales 😕

I was lucky enough to purchase this car with low mileage. The Expedition XLT with the 202A trim package has everything I was looking for and mine even came with a panoramic roof. It rides like a luxury liner should.

Is the 2019 Ford Expedition a good car?
Yes — the 4.85/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, smooth ride, and luxurious features, and many also like the performance and safety aspects, especially the turning radius and cargo space. For you, that makes this a strong fit if you want a full-size SUV that prioritizes family-hauling comfort and everyday usability. With 35.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also enough market activity to give you options.
Is the 2019 Ford Expedition reliable?
Owners rate it 4.85/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback highlights a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise centered on comfort, space, and features that make the SUV easy to live with over time. The recurring positive themes around being trouble-free and something owners can count on support that impression. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core appeal and more about finding a well-kept example that has been maintained properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Ford Expedition?
At 72.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from those with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on body condition, alignment, and signs of uneven wear. Because this is a large family SUV, focus on how well the interior, cargo area, and driving feel have held up in real use.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Ford Expedition?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right one.
- Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,661 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.35% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 72.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,747, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Ford Expedition's resale value?
The current average of $22,747 sits slightly below last year's $26,253.
That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle is documented. A clean history and strong presentation matter more when the market has already moved lower.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.85/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 72.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.35% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.85/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $19,405, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $22,747 average.
- The 2018 is a redesigned full-size SUV with more room and stronger towing focus.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $25,885, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $22,747 average.
- The 2020 adds very strong space and towing capability with more modern family-hauling versatility.
The bottom line: The 2019 makes sense if you want a well-liked full-size SUV with strong owner satisfaction and a softer price than last year. If your priority is saving money, the 2018 is the better value path; if you want to spend more for a newer model-year step up, the 2020 is the alternative to compare.
