In 2019, Ferrari revealed a successor to the California, the all-new Portofino. Like its predecessor, it features a front mid-engine layout, standard V8 power, and a retractable hardtop.
But the Portofino looks more natural in the role. Ferrari has had the time to make the power top a more seamless component of the vehicle’s design. There’s a bit of rise behind the passenger compartment, but the trunk lid features buttresses that also rise to the roll bars, embracing the design, rather than trying to hide it.
The top raises or lowers in 14 seconds at speeds of up to 25 mph. With the top up, those buttresses line up with the rear window pillars in such a way that you might not even realize that it’s a convertible. Riding with the top up is also the only way to achieve the 10.2 cubic feet of trunk space.
The Portofino features a 2+2 seating layout. Back-seat legroom increases by 5 centimeters, making the difference between an intolerable and a manageable place to sit—for short drives at least.
Inside, the driver will be drawn to the steering wheel, which features push-button start, a suspension adjustment button, and drive mode dial. The high-tech instrument cluster blends old and new, with a centrally located tachometer flanked by digital instrumentation screens.
At the heart of the center console is the new 10.2 inch touchscreen. It runs the latest version of Ferrari’s infotainment software and supports Apple CarPlay.
The long, sloping hood of the Portofino opens to reveal the beating heart of this Prancing Horse, a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. Tucked far back in the engine bay for optimal weight distribution, this engine makes 591 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque.
Power gets sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This combination is good for a 0-62 mph time of 3.5 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 199 mph.
But the Portofino also has the equipment for serious performance driving. It features a suspension system including magnetically sensitive shocks the driver can adjust to make them softer or stiffer. This allows the driver to adjust the suspension to his or her preference.
EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2019 Ferrari Portofino are 16 mpg city, 22 highway, 18 combined.
The Portofino is an instant head-turner that exudes style and luxury. And after all that, at its core is a taut Ferrari sports car that is sure to get the driver’s heart racing.

(3 reviews)Love it ! Amazing Car to own as your first super car ! Hard top convertible in Red Rosso color !
Compared with the CaliforniaT , is aesthetically little better , more torque , lighter. Ferrari did a great job with interior restyling. Weight distribution could be improved . Annoying electronic flaws (A/C , seat ventilation , main screen , retractable hard top.....are going on and off randomly). Little bit overpriced for a class A- GT compared with AMG , Aston Martin and Porche but , you pay for the Prancing Horse.
I loved my California T for four years. The Portofino has more power, refined tech/ergonomics and a more aggressive look. Then I drove it- faster, tighter and absolutely gorgeous in Giallo Modena and loaded with carbon fiber. Looked at Aston DB11 and Roma Spider, but hard top convertibles are much nicer-looks and function.
