Is the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox a good car?

Is the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with repeated praise for comfort, fuel economy, and the way the vehicle holds up in daily use. The expert evaluation also describes it as a straightforward, easy-to-live-with compact crossover, which supports the sense that it’s built for regular commuting and family duty rather than drama.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and hasn’t been compromised by prior damage or neglected equipment.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Chevrolet Equinox?

At 64.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a long option list. Pay close attention to visibility-related equipment, infotainment operation, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re looking at. Condition matters a lot here because some desirable equipment was packaged rather than standard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L trim is special-order only and lacks a spare tire, a compass, and most paint choices, while the LS mainly adds those basics back. The LT is the practical starting point, and the Premier is where advanced safety features become available.
• Powertrain: You get three engines: a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque, a 1.6-liter turbodiesel with 240 lb-ft of torque, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The 1.5-liter is efficient but underpowered, while the 2.0-liter is the strongest choice.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring is optional on the LT and standard only on the Premier, while adaptive cruise and pedestrian detection with auto braking are available only as an expensive package on the top two trims. The Lights and Bright package also addresses the headlight issue with LEDs.
• Infotainment: The updated system includes standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and an 8-inch touchscreen is available with the Sun and Navigation package. The system is easy to use, though response can be laggy.
• Fuel efficiency: The 1.5-liter FWD setup is rated at 26 mpg city and 32 highway, the turbodiesel is rated at 28 mpg city and 39 highway, and the 2.0-liter turbo AWD is rated at 22 mpg city and 28 highway, with a 24 mpg combined rating.

Which 2019 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LS, LT, Premier.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the cheapest way in, but it’s special-order only and strips out too much equipment for most shoppers, including a spare tire and compass. It makes sense only if you’re chasing the lowest possible price and can live with the compromises.
• LS: This is the real starting point, since it restores the basics the L leaves out and adds a little more flexibility. It still feels sparse, so it’s best for buyers who want the Equinox nameplate at the lowest practical entry price.
• LT: This is the best-value trim because it opens the door to the stronger engine choices and the most useful option packages. If you want the Equinox to feel properly equipped, this is the trim to target.
• Premier: This is the trim to choose if you want the most advanced safety equipment and the fullest feature set. It’s the right pick if you’re willing to pay more for convenience and driver-assistance content.

Blind-spot monitoring is standard only on the Premier and optional on the LT, while adaptive cruise and pedestrian detection with auto braking are reserved for an expensive package on the top two trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Chevrolet Equinox?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,959 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.92% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,982, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $13,982 sits slightly below last year's $15,696.

That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless you choose a well-equipped, well-kept example. A clean history and desirable trim can matter more when the market is already leaning downward. If you plan to resell later, buying at the right price today gives you the best chance to protect your value.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox does very well in both government and independent testing, scoring top marks in both sets of tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Equinox’s safety story is helped by its available driver-assistance technology, but some important features are not standard on lower trims. Blind-spot monitoring is only optional on the LT and standard on the Premier, while adaptive cruise and pedestrian detection with auto braking are available only as an expensive package on the top two trims. The headlights are a weak point, with both lower-trim halogens and upper-trim HIDs receiving a Marginal IIHS rating, though the available Lights and Bright package adds LEDs to address that issue.

Should I buy a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 adds HD rear-view and surround-view cameras plus an updated infotainment system.

Consider the 2018 if:

• At $12,358, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $13,982 average.
• It introduced the redesigned compact-SUV format and a roomier-feeling daily-driving balance.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $15,380, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $13,982 average.
• It adds standard advanced safety features and easier everyday usability.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, features, and shopper choice, the 2019 is the stronger all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2018 can save you money, while the 2020 makes sense if you want a newer-feeling setup and are willing to pay more.
