How much does the 2019 BMW X5 cost?

There are 1,805 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — the 2019 BMW X5 earns a 4.56/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10. Drivers consistently praise its strong performance, comfort, sleek design, and luxury features, while the overview points to a midsize crossover that emphasizes driving enjoyment, comfort, and a strong blend of utility and performance. Even so, the tech is described as less advanced than the segment’s best, so it fits you best if you value road feel and upscale driving manners more than class-leading gadgetry. With 38.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2019 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The user feedback also points to a generally positive ownership experience, with praise for the X5’s comfort, luxury features, and strong performance, while noting concerns about electrical issues and the limited size of the back seat. The expert evaluation describes the engine and transmission as one of the best combinations on the market, and the cost-effectiveness commentary says the X5’s powertrain stands out even at the base level. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a premium SUV with complex technology and higher-end hardware can become expensive if prior maintenance or electrical issues have been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 BMW X5?

At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history or missing service records. Pay close attention to the condition of the electronics, the braking feel, and the rear-seat space if you plan to use the X5 as a family hauler. Because this model can be loaded with expensive options, it also makes sense to confirm that the equipment on the car matches the seller’s description.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The xDrive40i starts with all-wheel drive, adaptive LED headlights and foglights, a panoramic sunroof, an adaptive suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, faux-leather upholstery with heated front seats, a power liftgate, ambient lighting, and a digital gauge cluster with a 12.3-inch secondary touchscreen. The xLine design package adds off-road-appropriate exterior trim and unique wheels, while the M Sport design package adds unique 20-inch wheels, an adaptive M suspension tune, an M steering wheel and aero kit, upgraded leather, four-zone auto climate controls, keyless entry, satellite radio, and roof rails. The xDrive50i adds the V8 engine, upgraded multi-contour front seats with real leather upholstery, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon stereo.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder in the xDrive40i or a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 in the xDrive50i. The eight-speed automatic is a highlight, with smooth shifts and strong efficiency for the class, and the inline-six returns an EPA-estimated 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined.
• Safety package: The standard safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert. The Driving Assistance Plus package adds limited hands-off driving, lane centering, lane changes, and Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, but the expert evaluation says it is not very good at speed.
• Infotainment: The X5 uses an updated iDrive interface and a 12.3-inch secondary touchscreen. Available tech includes gesture control, a head-up display, wireless charging, enhanced USB and Bluetooth connectivity, a rear-view camera with 3D view, gesture control for the infotainment system, and automatic parallel parking via Parking Assistant Plus.
• Fuel efficiency: The inline-six returns an EPA-estimated 20 mpg city, 26 highway, 22 combined.

Which 2019 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2019 BMW X5 is offered in 2 trim levels: xDrive40i, xDrive50i.

Here's the short version:

• xDrive40i: This is the best-value choice because it gives you the core X5 experience: strong turbocharged inline-six power, standard all-wheel drive, a smooth eight-speed automatic, and a long list of comfort and safety equipment. If you want the model’s best balance of price, performance, and everyday usability, this is the one to start with.
• xDrive50i: Choose this if you want the V8’s extra power and the upgraded real-leather front seats and Harman Kardon stereo. It is the more expensive route, so it makes the most sense if you specifically want the stronger engine and are comfortable paying more for it.

The standard safety suite is already strong on the xDrive40i, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get a solid set of driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 BMW X5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make shopping worthwhile if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,805 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.12% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,739, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $24,739 sits slightly below last year's $28,152.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the current pricing trend means you should expect a more competitive resale environment than last year’s. Well-kept examples with clean history and desirable equipment should still draw attention, but the broader market is clearly softer than it was a year ago.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 BMW X5 safe?

The 2019 BMW X5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover tests and five-star ratings in side crash tests. It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert. The Driving Assistance Plus package adds limited hands-off driving, lane keeping, lane changes, and Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, but the expert evaluation says the system is not very good at speed and can feel intrusive. That makes the standard setup the safer bet for many used buyers, especially if you want the X5’s driver-assistance features without relying on the more controversial semi-autonomous package.

Should I buy a 2019 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 38.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 stands out for its car-like handling, strong powertrain, and redesigned interior with updated iDrive and Level 2 autonomous technology.

The bottom line: If you want the newer-generation X5 with strong performance, a modern cabin, and a softer used-car price than last year, the 2019 is the better path. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with nearby years to see whether a lower-priced alternative gives you enough of the same driving feel and luxury features for less money.
