Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 a good car?

Yes — 4.9/5 is a strong user rating for the 2018 Volvo XC60, and our experts score it 8.3/10. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise the luxurious interior, smooth ride, and impressive safety features. The review summary also points to comfort and performance as recurring strengths, which fits a luxury crossover that aims to feel distinctive rather than conventional. In use, that makes it a strong fit if you want a premium family SUV with a polished cabin and a clear emphasis on safety and style.

36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2018 Volvo XC60 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary also highlights concerns about electronics and potential reliability issues, particularly on higher-mileage vehicles. At the same time, the ownership feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable enough to recommend for family use, especially when comfort and safety matter most. The expert notes also emphasize that the XC60 is built around a modern platform and a strong safety-first design, which supports confidence in day-to-day use.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that electronics and higher-mileage wear can become more important than the XC60’s strong initial appeal, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Volvo XC60?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on electronics, since owner feedback points to those as a possible trouble spot. It also makes sense to pay close attention to overall condition and maintenance history, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: In base Momentum trim, you get a standard panoramic sunroof, active safety features, 18-inch wheels, and a 10-way power driver’s seat. The R-Design adds more technology, more aggressive design, and 19-inch wheels, while the Inscription adds unique stitched leather trim, interior chrome accents, and optional driftwood inlays. The best-value trim is the T6 Momentum with the Convenience Package.
• Powertrain: Every XC60 comes with standard all-wheel drive, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The T5 makes 250 hp, the T6 adds a supercharger for 316 hp, and the T8 plug-in hybrid combines gas and electric power for 400 hp and up to 17 miles of electric-only driving.
• Safety package: Every XC60 comes standard with Volvo’s City Safety package, which can stop the car or steer it away from potential collisions with pedestrians, bikes, and other cars at low speeds and help lessen crash impact at higher speeds. Oncoming Lane Mitigation is new for 2018. Blind-spot detection and lane-keep assist are optional and must be ordered with the Vision package.
• Infotainment: Every XC60 comes standard with a 9-inch Sensus touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and the system is highly customizable, though the menu structure can be confusing.
• Fuel efficiency: The T8 is supposed to return a combined 26 mpg when charged, and the T6 Momentum with the Convenience Package gets combined fuel economy around 23 mpg.

Which 2018 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2018 Volvo XC60 is offered in 3 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, Inscription.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the trim to start with if you want the strongest value. It brings the standard panoramic sunroof, active safety features, 18-inch wheels, and a 10-way power driver’s seat, and it’s the trim that makes the XC60’s core strengths easiest to access without pushing the price too high.
• R-Design: Choose this if you want a more aggressive look and more technology, plus 19-inch wheels. It adds style and equipment over Momentum, but the source points to Momentum as the better value pick.
• Inscription: This is the most upscale choice, with stitched leather trim, chrome accents, and optional driftwood inlays. It suits you best if cabin ambiance matters more than keeping the price in check.

Blind-spot detection and lane-keep assist are optional and must be ordered with the Vision package.

• Inventory: There are 714 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.44% compared with last year.

What is the 2018 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $17,220 sits slightly below last year's $19,227.

That decline suggests the XC60 has become more affordable for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may face a softer pricing environment than before. If you buy at today’s average, you’re starting from a lower cost basis than last year’s market. That can help if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while, but it also means resale gains are less likely to come from market appreciation alone.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Every XC60 comes standard with Volvo’s City Safety package, which can stop the car or steer it away from potential collisions with pedestrians, bikes, and other cars at low speeds and help lessen crash impact at higher speeds. New for 2018 is Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and Pilot Assist II can steer the car, keep it between lane lines, and adjust speed to match traffic. Blind-spot detection and lane-keep assist are optional and must be ordered with the Vision package.

Should I buy a 2018 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.44% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 update brings an all-new platform, a totally different look and feel, and an optional plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive XC60 experience, the 2018 model is the one to target because it brings the redesign, the modern platform, and the strongest mix of style, safety, and technology. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully within this year and focus on lower-priced listings that sit near the bottom of the range.

How does the 2018 Volvo XC60 compare to the 2018 Audi Q5?

Our experts score the 2018 Volvo XC60 8.3/10 and the 2018 Audi Q5 7.8/10. The Volvo stands out for its stronger safety emphasis, more distinctive design, and richer standard equipment at the base level. The Audi Q5 counters with slightly better city fuel economy and a lower average used price, so it may appeal more if you want a more conventional luxury crossover and are focused on value.
